I sell boats for a living and have gone through 400 boats, NEVER use car products on gel coat, it's really not the same finish, and the sun affects it very differently then paint on a car/truck.
Also, I'm pretty sure if your boat is very oxidized, your product won't have nearly enough cut to remove it. I have used many professional polishers to do my boats for and they used a very heavy cut to compound with and then finish off with a wax.
If the boat is ridiculously oxidized, then it needs to be wet sanded, don't attempt this yourself, you could do way more harm then good.
Good luck on your buff, I hope you can manage to get her all ready!

Hey Marc ! Sup ! It's Marc !

ANyhow , its not overly oxidised its just surface ... With the 3M oxidation remover & wax product posted above I can get the oxide right off by hand ! ... So I intend on doing the whole boat with a buffer at low speed and pressur just to save my arm for more important motion.

I will be doing that tommorow and would just like to have something in reach to top the boat with as temporary protection ... Going in the water tomorrow afternoon !

Try to find a marine wax to put on, it will do the gel coat better, the car products even if they say ok for fiberglass, stay away from them it won't last long in the sun or on the water either....you're better off waiting a day or two and applying the right product, you'll have to trust me on this....I have some cleaner/ wax I can spot you if you come tomorrow for boats, call me at #514-942-8313

Thanks ! I appreciate the offer ... I will buff the thing tomorrow and monday stop by Marine Entrepot or something to get a good quality wax. I have been browsing and from everything read I doubt that a day or two without wax is no big deal. The boat should not oxidised overnite.

Thanks Again I took your number in my cell just to give you a shout when I hit the water this summer.
