SAAQ On-road motorcycle exam.. Laval or Henri-Bourassa?

For those who have done the open road test recently, which is a better area to take your test at?

And any tricky spots to watch out for?

Thanks.

I did Laval 2 years ago.

The instructors are actually very cool and aren't going to "trick" you. I don't think it matters where you go.

My instructor even told me "On the service road the speed limit is 70, but you should go at least 90km/h or we'll both be dead".

Just remember what they taught you, exaggerate your blinds and you'll do fine.

did it on H-B, just be carefull and you'll be fine. Also I wen't on like a tuesday a 10h00 or 11h00 don't go when there is alot of traffic in the morning or the evening you know how bad people drive at those time of the day

So I'm doing it in Laval at 9:30 hopefully traffic has calmed down by then. My friend just passed his at H-B but barely and he took the 2 hour refresher + rides regularly.. Would they make you go into Montreal island or stay in Laval?

Also how thorough do they inspect your bike? Since everything on my bike is(or will be) legal except that for some reason my turn signals don't light up like a DRL, but they do when signalling. Thanks again guys

I really don't think you'll go from laval to mtl lol, as for the bike inspection depends on the guy but I don't know how picky they are see I had the chance to do my exam on a ''magnifique'' shadow 4 speed I had rented from the rental place at saaq H-B...

They're not too picky. My bike had a Yoshimura pipe, smoked tail-light, windscreen, flashers, etc.

As long as it's in good mechanical order (runs well, chain is good, not ridiculously loud, you'll be fine.

I can't remember exactly where we went...we cut through the parking lot, turned right, traffic light, right, got to the highway service road (but never went on the highway), residential area, SAAQ.

^and a yoshi pipe ain't loud? eheh. I'm still gonna put back the original exhaust just to avoid any problems.

Also sounds like it took no less than 10 minutes lol.

^ Residential areas were the biggest part of it. Highway service road was only for 1 exit.

And don't forget, you have to park in the residential area. They also make you weave through the streets, lots of stop signs, traffic lights, etc.

I think it was around 20-25 minutes? I can't remember anymore.

It's a piece of cake, nothing to stress about. If you passed the closed circuit, you'll do fine.

A refresher may be a good idea if you haven't ridden since you did your lessons, however my buddy passed without practicing between the closed circuit and open road (10 months). The hardest part is remembering how to do things by the book...I.e. it's tempting to click it into neutral at traffic lights and put down both feet, but that'd be a fail!

You can put both feet down even relax ur clutch hand in neutral.. the evaluator just wants ur rear brake light on while stopped.

Parking... forgot all about that lol. I'm doing a 1 hr refresher with Morty's but it won't be around Laval area. I've been riding pretty frequently but tbh I don't think it'll help much since nobody rides 100% by the book. Thanks for the tips guys!

I was taught you had to be in first gear ready to go?

Left foot down, right foot on the brake pedal...

Obviously nobody does that IRL, but that's what we were told to do during the test. Doesn't matter I guess.

^srs??

I'm used to riding my own bike and it literally takes 30 minutes to put back on the original exhaust, everything else is pretty much stock. So why would I waste $100 renting a Nighthawk that i've only used a handful of times? Plus the refresher is so that I'll be prepared for the exam just like in any other exam we do.

Like Munchy said,

1-Fais bien tes angles morts 2 fois ...( Rétroviseur-Angle Mort-Clignotant-Rétroviseur-Angle Mort)

bonne chance !

Merci bcp some good points to take into consideration!
