OFFICIAL- getting into the sport- but too lazy to read all the threads

S4 Sold... S2K has less than 45,000kilo and his turning into a turbo S....

Beside I'd like to get something cheap so I don't care about kissing the walls

The funny thing is you arn't required to use full throttle at any time. You can use half throttle... The gas pedal is not an on / off switch, it can be modulated.
Ripping down the 1/4 mile is harder on your car than lapping but knowone believes me.....

I still wouldn't bother purchasing another car, the S2K would be ideal.

I might be a little biased but a bmw 328 is the way to go for cheap, relatively fast and reliable. Lot's of go fast parts available and well balanced from the factory...and I know of a guy that build them :)

no one believes you cause what you just said makes no sense....you can do a quarter mile slower by babying the clutch etc

so giving your car alot of gas is bad for it? (i should never push the pedal to the floor?)

being competitif or fast in drag or in road racing is hard on a car.

Now if its well maintained well PREPARED for what you do the car will last just as long!

With such a small budget you'll be looking at a 1st or 2nd generation Miata; an E30 325is or 318is; or an E36 318ti or 325is. These are going to be your mainstream choices, assuming you want a RWD car.

Drag racing = Racing the clock
Lapping = Improving your driving skills.

Try it.

Happy to hear about your interest in lapping! I want to take 2 seconds to cure some common mis-conceptions about lapping!

1. You don't need a crazy fully built car, or something 'disposible'. Everyone in lapping cares about their vehicles. Nobody else wants to get their damaged, and if you are planning on driving with no care or respect then no club will want you.

2. "Kissing walls" ... Nobody holds a gun to your head and says drive all out and go scrap that wall over there!! You drive within your limits. And when you think you've found your limits you don't take a huge swing to left field.

I would at least try it before buying a dedicated car. As Adam has mentioned, lapping is about improving your skills as a driver. It is also about having fun. The ASE LC Monday Night, or Lap N Learn programs is one of the most cost-effective in North America. It's a fun, safe enviornment with lots of instructors. We pride ourselves on making people the best driver's they can be. We make sure that people drive within their limits. You will be surprised that; when everyone plays the same game, with the same rules... it is extremely fun, and safe to do.

One of the best ways to get your feet wet is with the ASE LC Lap N Learn day on the 25th of June. It costs $200 for the day, all that you need is your car, an open mind, and a good attitude! If you don't have a helmet we can arrange one for you.

You can also pass by any Monday night... it is open to everyone; and speak with the staff, and other members about our program!

Cheers,

6K BMW plus another 6K for parts, repairs etc

Seriously what is up these all these "what lapping car should I buy" threads recently..

Guess I should have included that I already but I lapped my S2000, already did few amateur races. Already pass with success 2 different 3 days racing classe such a Trac N Racing etc.

So I'm NO PRO but I do have some experience in racing and I do have my liscence to race on a circuit.

Is there any wrong with having a car with the only purpose to lap, a car I would strip down completly and wouldn't be scare to push to my limit ? As well as lapping I was planning of doing rally-cross and therefore I'd rather not use my well maintain toys for this...

I'd like to hear more about this guy... mind putting me in contact with him ?

328 seems my 1st choice so far

I know that... I rather go 99% in a cheaper car that's purposly built for track than go 60% in the car I use every weekend.

Beside Racing Brake and Pads are a bitch to use daily, well for me it is.

I'd look into the cost of the replacement parts that you're going to go through, rather than the car itself. If you start putting in some serious lapping time, the cost of replacing tires, brakes, pads, etc.. is going to start adding up pretty quick.

J'irai pour la Miata... 1 iere generation
J'ai eu beaucoup d'autos
Le rapport plaisir de conduire vs temps passé pour l'etretenir vs $ pour l'achat et l'entretien est imbattable.

Some say he was born with a blow torch in one hand and a steering wheel in the other.....

...and btw ....No rustbucket ! :rulez:

Hmmmm.....the master will show when you are ready. :rice:

Two weeks ago at Tremblant he ate 1 Nissan GTR, 3 Porsche GT3s and a few Vipers while I was in the passenger seat in my car 328is ....that he lightly modded.
