Why isn't my STI selling? Help meee....

So in January, I bought an Impreza wagon since I was spending too much on gas. At the same time, I put my STI up for sale.

I've sold several cars before, so I doubt it's my sales "skills". All my cars have sold in two weeks TOPS and both buyer and seller were happy.

This car is something else though. I'm coming up to four months on the market and haven't had A SINGLE VISIT! I get 1-2 calls per month, the people always seem super interested. They ask a flurry of questions (most of which are already in the add), I answer them all. The phone call usually lasts 10+ minutes, we arrange a time and place to meet the next day, everything seems perfect. Then, THEY NEVER SHOW UP! FOUR TIMES I GOT STOOD UP NOW!

I'm not desperate to sell, more annoyed that it's still in my driveway. I drive it when I can, but I find that cars go downhill when they're not used 3+ times per week.

Here's the link to the add:

I'm going out of town, but when I get back on June 2nd, I was thinking of:

1) Hiring a photographer
2) Getting the exterior detailed (interior is ultra clean)
3) paying for the kijiji/lespac "top add".
4) Lower the price further???

Anything else you guys would suggest? Is the price too high? It truly does run well, although the odometer is higher than many would like I guess...maybe I should also take out the bit about the accident/repair? I wanted to be upfront about it, but maybe that's turning people away? Is the price too high? It's by far the cheapest 2006 on the market (by $3k or so).

YOUR FEEDBACK IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

The pictures are awful, the car was in an accident, the mileage is high, you state outright that it's uncomfortable.....

^ How are the pictures horrible? In my opinion, the pictures show off the clean paint of the car...I would assume that people already know what an STI looks like. As mentioned, I will hire a photographer in a week or two, but 90% of the adds on lespac/kijiji have horrible pictures.

Uncomfortable? I said too aggressive, I don't want people thinking I'm selling because of the high Km, because I'm not. I'll take out the bit about the accident and aggressiveness when I post again.

Bottom line, are you saying I'm priced too high? Because I used to get a stream of email offers at $16k, but people aren't even sending those anymore. The blue book is still ~$20.5k.

The pictures are too close and don't show the passenger side of the car. That's a bad idea, especially when you said it's been in an accidents.

True, I'll be sure the photographer covers 360* for the next add. I'll also get some nice interior shots. Thanks for the input.

cause at this milage.. Don't know if you have done a compression test or leak down?!? If not and he will not pass... 18 500$ + 6-7000$ for a new engine.. :(

^Unfortunately I didn't do a compression or leak down. I had the turbo inspected, which is in great shape. The engine doesn't burn oil and runs good, so I left it alone! I put on a lot of those KM's on the highway, going to the ski hill every weekend adds up!

So then do you think my price is too high? But even then, I'm not getting any offers, nada. There really isn't any interest for it :dunno:

price seems right but the high mileage must be scaring the buyers off. btw did you do the headlights and tails yourself?

My buddy did them. It's fairly straightforward, but I was too nervous to put my headlights in the oven (to be able to open them), haha.

Where is it listed? I'd put it up on as many Subaru type boards you can find. mtl subaru club, ottawa club, hell TO club too. Nasioc cause you never know. At least on those forums people know what they are looking at and see value in it. As for Kijiji and Lespac, you gotta market the car as if the buyer has no idea what it is (people are retards...). So tons of pics will help there. Took me a good 2 months to sell a legacy wagon and in the end the Hebdo listing did it for me.

If you followed any of the "I want to buy a sub-20k car threads", most people talk about how they want an STi, but only find ones involved in accidents, which they DO NOT WANT. The reputation is that STi's involved in accidents are also a good indicator for poor driving habits (racing, high revs, taking corners very hard). If you take out the bit about having been involved in accidents, then you will still be asked the question.

Assuming that you lie about involvement in accidents, they will simply VIN-check the car and call you a liar. If they should purchase the car first, then VIN-check the car within 30 days, then they can bring you to court for having lied about the details of a product.

Also, I agree with logik23. The pictures are very poor. Even if you hire a pro to take pictures, you are allowed to display 5. Pick ones that showcase the side views of the car, front and rear quarter panels. Nobody likes pictures that show just the front or just the rear up close, those pictures hide everything about the car. It may be cool for artsy photoshoots, but not for sales.

Also, "add" is the verb for summation. An "ad" is short for advertisement, which is the word that you want to use.

1. Accidented , who cares its professionally repaired. If frame was bent, no matter what, the metal will never go back to its original shape.
Accidented = Accidented.
2. Expensive for a accidented WRX STi.
3. Huge taxe on 2006 model
4. Expensive insurrance
5. Limited clients (Not easy to find a young man who has 18-19k$+ cash)
6. Not enough pictures
7. Ebay taillights
8. Cobb accessport = abused, who buys a accessport and does not rip their cars??
9. Clutch stage 2 ......... The original clutch was good enough, which means the car has been raped so badly that it needed a new clutch, stage 2 is less expensive than a OE clutch.
10. Bit high kilometers , but some people won't mind.

Chaseme, I'll be sure to list it in a few more places, thanks. Kijij and Lespac worked for me in the past, but I guess the market for this car is smaller than I thought.

Gatz, I never planned on lying in the AD, or to the buyer. I was considering leaving out the accident from the AD, since it affects the car in no way and I think people are making assumptions. I would tell them and explain to them what happened and how it was fixed when they come to see the car. I would also have them sign a paper to consent that they know it was in an accident.

^Finally, I am hoping to find someone who is looking for all those features in the car. I actually just put all that in (I tried to make it seem as stock as possible in the past, which it basically is) and still no hits. When I repost it, I'll try to make it more innocent. A price drop also seems inevitable, and the SAAQ tax is rape. I bought this car a year ago and paid over $2k in tax.

You also make a ton of assumptions about what I did with this car. It was never raped. Did the turbo spool occasionally? Yes, but if people think it was abused constantly they could take it to their mechanic. It's already been inspected by KNS and Swap Shop and received a clean bill of health.

Hiring a photographer and getting the car detailed is a waste of money IMO.

Just be patient or maybe lower the price?

"bump" the add on kijiji and lespac often, thats what i usually do when i sell stuff and it works very well.

The ad seems really short.. sorry but i'd give a shitload of details on my STI if I was selling it..

Maybe unmarry the Cobb and when the guy comes you ask if he wants it? You have to help yourself.

The fuark are saying ?

Your car doesn't sell because of the 170k km

ej257 are not the best engines especially when they have more then 120k km

your add looks like shit

you should do a point description of your car :

Interioor :

-xxxx
-xxxx
-xxxx

Exterior:

-xxxx
-xxxx
-xxxx

etc

The price is right IMO but people that want an sti would spend the extra 5k and get a clean one with under 100k km

Why are you even mentionning the COBB access port? Screw the "performance" exhaust and clutch... mention to people when they show up and that's it...

Not rly to all of this.

Your paint is silver, unless it's in a REALLY Rought shape but I doubt it because we spoke in PM and I trust you take good care, no need for a detailing, the difference with a 1-step polish will be minimal, IMO and I think you would be better shaving 500$ of your price than paying 500$ to have it detailed. On a black car and such, I would always recommand a good detailing.

However, your photos isn't good and 2 pictures ??? give me more please!

As for the rest, I'm not a suby expert and don't know the pricing of these.

I think what you need is more pictures of pretty much the same quality. No need to dish out cash for a photographer, just a picture of the interior and a picture of the side would do. You can also do a shot of the engine bay but that's not really necessary. I'd say the price is just a BIT high given the fact that it's a VGA. It is possible to find a similar condition/mileage non-VGA for the money. Also I wouldn't mention the AP and the clutch. If questions arise when you have a potential buyer: "Yes, the clutch has been replaced" - and that will spark nothing but even more interest. People are scared of these cars because of all the yadda yadda going on on the internet of them shooting rods through the block so another key thing here is to pass yourself for an average guy driving the car to work, not an enthusiast exploiting the limits of grip to reach the boundaries of the known universe. I am exaggerating but you get my drift. Having said that, you should see some more ACTUAL visitors coming your way.
