le "nouveau" Julep......

It’s inevitable that the crowd has changed, kind of foolish to expect it to be the same as 5-10 years ago. That being said I’m not saying it’s any better than it was, just different, keep in mind it seemed a lot cooler when you knew everybody and just hangin’ out with your friends, now you know nobody and can have a more detached opinion of it.
Thinking back to one of my first experiences over a decade ago there was one guy that came with his mk3 Golf and was mouthing off to everybody how his car was the shit and he paid for everything himself from the Quaife LSD to the metalflake paint, guy was a joke. I also remember another idiot with his 350z that pulled off a burnout right from his parking spot to only miss crashing into several really nice cars and then parked it right back in the same spot.
Hell I even remember catching a plane out west and reading the Air Canada Enroute magazine and it had an article about the modified car meets at the Orange Julep.

When i use 2 go to julep back in the days it was on Thursday nites , it was all about performance and a bit of esthetic but people didn't come for the dropness and rims. They came for the races in the back streets.
I remember i use 2 come there with my cousins/friends , would chill for like 10 min so everyone gets there and then we would move to the street royal mont ( i think) where you had a good enough stretch for some nice drags. The place use 2 be filled up with mustangs , civic and some volks. Those were the fckin days man never had so much fun with my car .
I stopped going when the police started to shut down all the racing street , thecnopark beside the old port ( the best one ever) , the one in st-laurent , hymus , st-marie in kirkland and obviously the one behind julep.
Many years later , i dumped my Z24 and got into volks/audi and came back this summer to julep. It's a LOT different , performance is no more the cool thing to have , ur not cool unless your car scraps the floor or unless you make woush woush sounds when you park.
Back in the days there was crazy 5.0 smoke shows , races , a bit of retards and no one died or hot injured. Nowadays when someone revs his engine or moves a bit fast you get metrosexual's screaming ticoune this showoff that. I guess the police really broke this new generations spirit or they just 2 pretty to race
Still i like the new trend of cars , my a4 is pretty low but obviously not low enough but i tried really low on my GTI and its way to annoying to drive very low static. I would like one day to get bags but i'm in no rush.
I like the new car scene and the cars are way nicer then they use 2 be but its all show . I miss the races

i agree with you op , but at same i better to watch this ,,,low , camber shit meet, then 5 years ago stupid ti counes on civic and integra with alot of blue and green neons ,p-flow,muflers and music and 1000 cops around who give tickets .

Aujourd'hui tout le monde se sépare, les BAGS vs STATIC, ratstyle appart, finalement tout le monde juge tout le monde, tout le monde est jaloux du voisin.
La fierté de conduire un VW, est aussi les passionnés qui trip, j'espère que ceci est qu'une bulle passagère.

I agree. There's always been a split between Euro, JDM and USDM communities. I would say that the biggest culture difference between all was a sense of community / family / brotherhood or what ever you wanna call it within the Euro scene and I guess that's one of the reason why it got so popular.
Unfortunately, the scene did not attract the right crowd who had that community mindset. Now it's all about who changes wheels more often and who's on bags. Although I can appreciate the new trends, I don't think that it should be about being the best or about having a "Rock Star" attitude but again it should be about sharing a passion and appreciating "differences" and other people's work.

I find it true now, tuesday euro meets are all about looks stance and bags.. And 0 performance.. I find it kinda sad. In my head mod cars were always performance oriented. Cars thats all about looks and no performance IMO is almost the same thing as a ricer. If only tuesday had more real tuners it would be great.
