le "nouveau" Julep......

it's not about performance anymore because you go 5 km/h over the limit and you lose your licence for a week.

Low and slow....but don't agree with people thinking they are entitled over other just because they are lower or wtv.

fucking 90's babies.

Sigh... Performance isn't only about speed. Improving your car's handling is satisfying as well, something that brings a smile on nice curvy roads. Not something I would expect you to understand, apparently 5km/h speeding tickets are too expensive...

Stance is the new Rice and all about form over function. I admit it looks good though, way better than the 90's rice that's for sure.

That's why I never go to meets, and have moved to mk1's and older dubs. Now it's all about spending a couple g'S in a shop to get aired and overpriced vwvortex hyped wheels and you call it a day.

I remember when plastic welding your own badgless grill was the shit....now any "mon père est riche en Tab." kid thinks he's god's given gift to the euro scene cuz he's at the top of the trend following pyramid.

Any one who remembers Emiel's nimbus gray mk3 out of the UK will know what I mean.

And it's not to be elitist or diss the scene because there are alot of GREAT cars and GREATER folks around. Maybe it's just an age thing too.....I remember being wowed by rice buckets 15 years ago....luckily i found the light of reason shortly after ;)

Started the VW Scene in 81' stopped around 92'
Got back in it in 08;
What I like in the oldskool, is we talk about specs, technical stuff, ideas, and debate on views on ideas.
Now it seems, that people talk about people, and what they do to their cars...
I'm in for a built not bought meet; this is what is happening in most of the local meets, Julep is still there, and I still attend once in a while, but local meets, and track days, thats where its at for me!
OP; thanks for opening this thread!

Pete!!! Lets bring back the old Dubholics crew!! :D

Haven't been there in a while... I remember going in my daily driver which was an MK4 Golf TDI since my weekend car was being detailed and was having some springs put on... anyways, the TDI had a burnt tail light that I didn't know about... obviously some guy had to point it out to his friends and try to make a joke out of me, instead of politely letting me know and not being a faggot about it. I mean I wasn't there to show off in a bone stock Golf with tints I was just there to chill with some people that I knew were there that night. I came back a week later in my MK6 GTI and thank god I see the same guy again, so I parked next to his car and I was like "hey dude look I replaced my burnt tail light, looks fresh huh?" and he had a blank look on his face and didn't know what to say. I don't know if he posts on here but it was a dark purple mk2 jetta with 1000000 stickers on his car and OBVIOUSLY had a shocker on his bumper

dubaholics?

I used to be more into japanese cars (before they became JDM cars), but I still remember going to Julep on Tuesdays just to see what was being made on the ''other side'' back in '05 (hey, that's my youth, don't laugh). I can still remember Bruce's orange MK3 rear-mounted turbo VR6 burning off on the street between McDies and Julep, before getting away from the teased-up cops in a glory-and-smoked-filled pull away going south on Decarie....that marked me!

I agree. There's always been a split between Euro, JDM and USDM communities. I would say that the biggest culture difference between all was a sense of community / family / brotherhood or what ever you wanna call it within the Euro scene and I guess that's one of the reason why it got so popular.

Unfortunately, the scene did not attract the right crowd who had that community mindset. Now it's all about who changes wheels more often and who's on bags. Although I can appreciate the new trends, I don't think that it should be about being the best or about having a "Rock Star" attitude but again it should be about sharing a passion and appreciating "differences" and other people's work.

This trend will pass. Like any other extreme trend. Undercar glowing lights used to be cool...sigh...

Sigh... Performance isn't only about speed. Improving your car's handling is satisfying as well, something that brings a smile on nice curvy roads. Not something I would expect you to understand, apparently 5km/h speeding tickets are too expensive...

The fun of riding a VW or euro car is to ...heck! Drive it! Those super-slammed are too concentraded on the bumps and cracks to see anyone else around!

Ever since i sat in my 03 GLI VR6 24V i always wanted to feel what is was like to be apart of that family vw scene. WHen it got scrapped on the highway and i got a GTI, I always told my wife i wanted to rebuild a MK2 GTI and bring her and the baby to the meets. Now im embaressed to go cause all i see are people who try to show off who has the deeper pocket. Sure I would love to have ROTIFORM's but i guess im doing something wrong when the 18yr old who works at McDee's has them on his mk4 gti. Im Hopeing that one day i can find a crew that can be a family and will actually want to hang around and have a few drinks. I hate talking with Dubbers who are barely old enough to drive and discuss some cool things to do to my GTI. Maybe i want to spend the money and put a quatro on it and make my own R-GTI, maybe i dont want to chop up an R32 cause i just think that theres not enough of em to rip em apart.

Nice shot Rainer, and holy crap look at Super Dave's in the 2nd pic.

I miss all y'all, but I feel as if I've overstayed my welcome when going there.

+1 for an old school meet.
