My adventures in the world of S10's

Seeing as I'm pretty much stuck on these trucks, I think it's about time I start documenting all my s10-isms. This thread will get off to a boring start, but i promise to document my v8 build as it progresses..

So here is where my redneckness started. February 2009 I was working in construction, and needed a small truck. Initially I wanted an oldschool yota, but the prices are too damn hiiigh! So after i gave up on yotas, I went for the next best looking thing: a first gen s10. I really liked the look of the 1st gens, and I loved how they were laid out mechanically... so after searching for a few weeks, i found the exact one I wanted.

red 91 ext cab sonoma, red interior, manual, 4.3, 2wd, with a posi. I got it with a cap, a set of winter on rims, summers on rallye wheels, a ton of centercaps, rim trim rings, and a box of used headlights.

img103-1.jpg

over the year I owned it the cap came off, I ran it straight pipe, and during the summer, rocked it durty with clean mags and tires. I had alot of fun with it...

img120-1.jpg

It eventually met it's end when a front bearing when and the body mounts started going. sold it off before having to spend money on it...

During the summer I got my dad's beater s15. single cab 2.8 5 speed 2wd with a shitton of parts. The 2.8 was burning oil like a hondapoubs and the rear brake cylinders popped... so I just cut it up and harvested parts

Now fast forward to march this year, I needed a new DD. Having a small pickup was my best option, especially a 2nd gen 2.2. Great gas mileage and cheap to maintain, yet still durable and useful. So I bought a reg cab 94 s10 2.2 manual.

To start off, I ditched the cap and useless bug deflector, threw in a rollbar with some cheap fogs.

After a while the ugly teal color was pissing me off, as was the useless carpet, so I ripped out the carpet, and hand painted the truck with some industrial john deere green. Then i just enjoyed having a truck i didn't have to worry about scratches or getting the carpets wet...

This one was sold a few weeks ago. After doing the brake lines, the clutch line went, the front brake line went, and the starter went. So i said "fuckit" sold it for $500, not even running or stopping on it's own...

so now on to my current s10's:

I got my s15 not long after I got my first s10. It's an 85 s15 sierra ext cab. Originally a 2.8 5 speed, the truck is currently powered by a 305 4bbl with headers, and backed by a TH400 autotragic. Since I've had it, I haven't had much time to do much. Just a tune up and some driving. it's just a fun truck to drive, and the swap feels as though it came oem.

4doorsmorewhores whut?

So next on the agenda is to swap the heavy, slow, th400 for a proper NV3500. tearing down my parts truck will start next weekend...

And my current DD? Another 2nd gen poubs. Originally my sisters dd, I traded her a sunfart for it. 2001 s10 2wd reg cab 2.2 manual posi diff. It's currently sitting on 235/75/15, and I'd like to go bigger for winter...

The horrid Jewish racing gold was pissing me off, so I gave it a quick mad redneck tremclad job this weekend.

other than that, it just needs to be reliable...

so stay tuned. detailed posts and progress pics will be posted

Nice thread!
J'aimais mieux le gold de ton dernier s10 que le flat black.
Le mien a la même couleur, une fois bien détaillé le métallique ressort beaucoup sur cette couleur la.

I also needed to paint it cause the paint was peeling badly... So i stripped, sanded, and POR15'd under that flat black. It should be an easy seller whenever I get rid of it, "all metal no rust"

just got back from napi with teh 305poubs... My old spark plugs were vga but i wasn't able to change 6 & 8 due to the header blocking socket access... it ran fine on Saturday, but tonight they misfired like crazy at wot... after two runs with misfire I tried my best to get them bitches out. wouldn't budge with a key without stripping, and vice grips have no access. stupid NGK pos. Went for one last run and decided to go all out... best time was 16.06 with 6&8 misfiring :(

gonna try tmr with a regular 5/8 socket and vice grips

You need to make a short spark plug socket.

Take the normal 5/8 plug socket, take the rubber out and put a plug in to see how far it goes.
Measure how far down the socket the plug will go and cut the excess lenght off the socket.

Now you have a short socket. Slide it on the spark plug and you can break the plug loose with a wrench then take the socket off and unscrew the plug from the head with your fingers.

You wont be able to use the ratchet but it works great for the hard to reach ones.
It'll look like this:

I have someone on Facebook that is getting rid of 3 1st gens with all the extra parts for 2 grand... Let me know of you want his number.

I hope you didn't tow that 6500lbs 5th wheel with a 2.2 L4 little truck ... lol

The blue is my favorite one, maybe because it reminds me my hotwheels 1/64 when I was a kid.
Lache pas des 1st gen on en voit presque plus.

that's sick. perfect spec for a V8 swap. Let me know if you need parts. I'm tearing down my still plated 4.3 parts truck, and I'm only keeping the trans for my s15 and rear end to make a ghetto trailer.

Here's all I managed to do this weekend. Add some volvo woofers enclosed in a 1980's speaker box sitting on each jump seat. ghetto styles..

I'm planning on building a garage at my uncles place, so the manny swap is kinda on hold...

little update: Gave away the springs off my parts truck, and it's ready to be cut up. Hopefully I can cut it all up and have it gone saturday. Aside from the tires rubbing on the inner well, this is actually still functional on the bumpstops...

Been having problems with the coilpacks on my 01', and the rad cracked on the passenger side like they all seem to do. So I've got MSD (same price as poubs from napa) coilpacks coming in, and gonna order a new rad tomorrow.

S15 still running fine because SBC...

BTW I have 2 first gen bedliners to give away. PM if interested

Ended up buying a rad cause it was leaking badly. My buddy hooked me up with a $220 rad for $90. It was one for an automatic, so I did have to ghetto plug the trans cooler section, and move the wiring harness forward to clear the thicker core, but other than that it's perfect.

(For those who are anal about things: The bent fins you see in the pic happened in shipping. Nothing major, just the bag of fittings running loose in the box bent a few. Combed them bitches straight before installing...)

Finally got the coilpacks for me and my friend. installed them bitches today.

My friend's (Jewish racing gold ZQ8) old coilpacks were replaced by a previous owner, and were still fine, but he got some anyways while I was ordering. He said he felt a difference. Mainly there was no bog, and throttle response improved.

307930_10151195170596998_773965434_n.jpg

I felt a hell of a difference when swapping my VGA'd OEM 179,000km misfiring-under-light-load coilpacks for these MSD's. Similar no bog / excellent response, and now it pulls like it should. Highway acceleration is no longer a problem.

For the same price as a Napa replacement + shipping, it was worth it...
