^They definitely have Iron Maiden as an inspiration that's for sure.
2 other bands I really (I mean really) affectionate. You can really feel the scandinavian coldness(even though Agalloch's an american band)...they bring so much emotions.
Agalloch (it's worth listening to the entire songs...taken from their album "Ashes Against The Grain" which is a melodic death masterpiece)
I can't really say X-Japan had Iron Maiden as inspiration. I mean, X-Japan exists since 1981 (they were a high school band project). In 1987, they started to get some attention: Toshi (singer), Yoshiki (drummer, pianist), Pata (guitarist) and hide (guitarist) were the former band members. In 1992, Heath joined the band on bass after Taiji's departure (Yoshiki and Taiji had music direction issue). They still exist to that form until 1998 when hide died. Later, they came back since 2007.
It's really hard to put a label on X-Japan. At the beginning, they played thrash metal/speed metal and glam metal. After they played symphonic metal and power ballad. In 1996, the song "Drain" has some industrial alternative input. Their best song, IMO it's "Art of Life" (a 29mins song).
