That's why people test drive an M3 and buy a 911.

I agree with you, but you'd be very suprised to realize how many fan boys there are out there and say "OMG, M3 is the best car, way better than a 911".
Of coruse most of them never drove a 911. Even funnier, never drove the M3 either...BUT they still say M3 is the best.
And I'm, not talking about MR here...talking real life.
 
People who never drove a 911 should never use the word Porsche in a sentence.

My dream is to use a C4s as a daily driver..
 
so because I never drove a Porsche I couldn't use the phrase :

one of my dream car is a 964 Black Porsche RSR.

Why do people compare 911's to M3's, they are completely different cars. The former is a sportscar the latter is a GT. As nice as M's are they can never top this

Why doesn't the 911 compare to the M3 in terms of the average dude shopping for a decent sports car?

The M3 is 40K cheaper but still reasonably comparable. ~400 HP, rwd, sporty, etc etc

The 911 is much better than the M3 but is it 40K better? Even if you have the money sometimes justifying the delta is difficult.
