"in-transit" américain après la frontière (importation US)

J'ai cherché sur Google et sur le forum, malgré les 329048 threads sur le sujet, ma question ne semble pas répondue.

J'achète une voiture au New Jersey, j'ai un in-transit / temporary permit pour rouler avec jusqu'à la frontière. Est-ce que ce in-transit est valide pour rouler au Canada?

Si non, je fais quoi?

Il semble que selon la SAAQ j'ai besoin d'un permis temporaire de 12h pour me rendre au Canadian Tire, ensuite un permis temporaire de 4 jours pour faire l'inspection mécanique... mais je n'ai pas vu de confirmation nulle part et c'est vraiment pas clair sur les différents sites
Le permis de 4 jours prends un inspection mécanique en main pour l'obtention.. et le permis de 12h semble être pour se rendre à l'inspection mécanique... Dans mon cas, je ne sais pas si l'inspection fédérale du Canadian Tire est ok pour avoir le permis de 4 jours.

Quelqu'un a déjà vécu cette situation? Pas envie de devoir le mettre sur un trailer rendu aux douanes!!!

(p.s. dernière fois j'ai importé j'ai laissé la plaque US sur l'auto, mais cette fois le vendeur veut garder ses plaques donc ps le choix d'avoir une plaque temporaire américaine).
 
Si tu veux etre sur à 100%, appelle à la SAAQ pour savoir si le transit américain est valide ici.
 
Le temporary tag américain n'est PAS VALIDE au Québec. Par contre, la plupart des policiers le savent même pas...

I've done this 3 times, yes it's valid as long as you pay your taxes on the car.. which is what you are doing when you are importing it.

The custom people will tell you the same thing, I even got pulled over with the sky when I was driving around laval with a Idaho Temp permit and as long as your have the Import form with your showing you paid your taxes you are fine.
 
J'ai roulé avec un in-transit de l'état de NY pendant 25 jours ici. Croisé plusieurs policiers, sans qu'aucun ne m'arrète...
 
When you import your vehicle you will be filling out a form at customs called 'Form 1', this form will give you the temporary right to drive till you get your car plated.
 
The SAAQ doesnt know anything, I spoke to 3 agents (waited in line) to get a QC transit which they cannot give because the car's not registered.
None of them told me I was allowed to drive with the american plate OR the american transit OR the Import - Form 1... They all just said basically "that's not our problem"

They just helped me to waste a whole bunch o time.
 
+1 the saaq never helps for these rare questions...

i didnt know the form 1 gave the right to drive... its not clear anywhere on the internet... im sure this thread will show ip in google someday

Just to be clear, you cannot drive with the Form 1 only, you need both a temp plate or regular plate and the Form 1!

I had regular NY plates on the WRX, Regular Oregon Plates on the Baja and an Idaho temp plate on the Sky, with the form one I had no problems driving them legally here.

You cannot drive the car with a form 1 only.
 
It is NOT legal to drive with the temporary tag, even if you have the Form 1....

Cops don't bother because they don't know, and/or they don't care, and/or they don't want to give people trouble for that.

The law is unclear about this situation... At the time of import, the car has not yet been inspected, so it cannot be driven on the streets. It's basically the same as driving with a car that had to get an inspection after being pulled over or whatever... For this reason, the SAAQ will not issue a temporary tag.

A friend of mine was pulled over with a car he was driving home after importing it and he got a ticket and the car was towed, which was totally right because of the above.

The Form 1 doesn't give any legal right in the province of Quebec... It's just a proof that the car went through the customs legally, thus most cops should be understanding and shouldn't give you trouble.

If you have a temporary tag, don't drive like a dumbass and have all the necessary paperwork with you, you'll most likely be alright.
 
la plaque temporaire US est pas légale ici.
Mais ca prend 20-30min aller a lacolle(dans le village) chercher un transit une fois ton importation complété au douanes.
c'Est simple et il sont habitué la bas.

Ensuite tu prend les transit pour inspection mécanique habituel pour tes inspections.

c'Est ca que mon pere et moi avons fait pour sa Z4 en 2009.
 
6,1% si le char est pas fabrique en amerique du nord...

plus 5% tps

et la tvq tu payes a la saaq
