Because you know, when you just dont have enough power anymore !! Well ive reached this point with the e30 and i need some help!!
Here are my requirements:
- enough power.. Looking to get over 300hp but not i dont want crazy number! I want it to be driveable!
-the engine has to be somewhat reliable
-i'd like a swap that has been done before so i can get the max of info to do it
-i want to keep my car near a possible to the 50/50 weight distribution that it has right now!
-something that is mod happy, meaning that when i'll need more ill be able to get it!
- not over the 6k for the engine/tranny/wiring/ect
So far i've considered 3 options..
1st: Keeping the m20 and making the most out of it, which means agressive cams, boring it out to 3.0L, changing pistons, rods, valves, and all the other crap to make it develop the most it can... Problem with this is no more reliability, hard to maintain, and cant be daily driven anymore!
2nd : swapping a s54
The s54 has good power, i love that engine and would be awesome to keep a bmw powerplant in a bmw!! But then again most of the s54 engines out there are overpriced, even more so with the 6 speed tranny ! And the only guy i trust with the programmin and wiring is in toronto so it would probably go over budget and its pretty costly to mod and get more out of it.
3rd option: swapping a LSx engine, and i was thinking about the ls3. Its a big v8 but the weight is pretty good, theres plenty of power stock and can develop a shitload more! Good points is that alot of people have done this! Theres alot of info and you can buy most of the stuff you need. For the price im guessing its around the same as the s54 but probably easier to find.
At this point i really don't know which way to go!! Alot of people here know more than me able all of this and id like everyones toughts about my options and others that i havent looked at.
