2010 Mustang GT I used to do it in 3rd

And real man drift in 3rd

Anyways all depends of the driver / how you feel your car

Normally both my Lancer and in the 240 I would drift in second and at low RPM (Like 2500) for best results. The only time I would use 3rd is for shallower angle higher speed drifts. I find my cars drifted the best when I was close to peak torque.
