Roll protection before*** harness use!
..wouldnt want your head to get pinned+crushed in a nasty roll-over.
also, if shopping for a new seat, one with head cradle should be chosen!
(imagine a side impacts effect on your head & neck, HANS or not)
HANS is not difficult/annoying to use. Sliding tethers allow for sufficient range of motion
(I wear my HANS when I lap)

A pretty safe thing to do. You have to make the investment in the seat belt and belt support, but worth every penny.

Atlanta, Ga. Dec. 18, 2012 – HANS Performance Products announced today the introduction of its new professional model, the HANS Pro Ultra.
Featuring light weight and a low collar, the HANS Pro Ultra provides the same protection as the HANS Professional used worldwide by drivers in major racing series since 2001. Made from carbon fiber, the new HANS Pro Ultra carries a feather graphic on the new style collar signifying its low weight.
Priced at $995, the 20 medium HANS Pro Ultra is available immediately and the 20 large will be available in March. Although initial inventories are low, production is ramping up and HANS Performance Products is accepting orders now. Perry Performance has ordered 3 units.
The HANS Pro Ultra has been certified by SFI under its 38.1 specification for Head and Neck Restraints. FIA, the international sanctioning body, has approved the HANS Pro Ultra as well. NASCAR certification is pending.
“The HANS Pro Ultra further confirms HANS Performance Products as a market leader in providing innovative safety products to our customers,” said Gary Milgrom, vice president of HANS Performance Products. “It gives drivers another excellent choice when it comes to the all-important use of a Head and Neck Restraint at any speed, in any type of car, and on any type of track.”
The new HANS Pro Ultra allows better access and egress for drivers due to the lower collar. A different contour to the legs provides an improved fit across the chest and shoulders. The newest HANS also has high epaulets for an improved fit with safety harnesses.
