If I was looking for awd I would buy the Volvo s60r. You can pick them up for 10 but they usually sell around 12 or 13. Why? Well I would take it over the imprezza mainly cuz it's not an Sti so you're basically wasting time and money with it. But also because the Volvo comes with 300hp and 300tq. And a much classier interior with leather and carbon fiber and a really cool stick shift. Only problem with the Volvo is that the r uses racing parts such as Brembo brakes so repairs can get expensive. If I wasn't going for the awd I would get a Mini Cooper s because its a super reliable car, great power, a lot of fun to drive and easily modifiable with either the supercharger or turbo model. Also has a pretty cool interior. Only issue is that it's pretty tight in the bak seat but the front seat is fairly spacious.
Overall but what you want. But don't buy an imprezza if its not an Sti.

Given he's looking at Accords and Imprezas (he would of mentioned WRX or STI if he was looking there) I think he wants something somewhat recent, fairly reliable & economical and not too high mileage. A 10K S60R will be 8-9 years old with very high mileage and it's definitely not economical in repairs, insurance or gas even if it's a nice car. I could be wrong but I doubt that's what he's looking for.
Leggy GT ftw in that category. Good interior, good power, great AWD system, stronger tranny than WRXs, better steering rack etc etc etc
Pretty sure he asked what we would buy and why. Not why he should buy the cars he mentioned. For 12k you can get the s60r with about 140k. And Volvo engines have a great life expectancy so easily got another 140 to go. As for the mini's for 10k u can find them with under. 100k so again, pretty good life left in it
My bad, he did say what would we get and why, I read "what I should get".
Mr2. Good in snow, looks sexy, fast, and it teaches you how to pack properly

Thanks. The legacy looks promising, GT or not. Its classy, AWD and reliable, as far as I know. I will definately look into that. Any other suggestions?
yea go for a car from the 80s that has RWD and no traction control and very little if not no safety features other than a seat belt. that seems like the best decision for a new all year round car!
