Audi Unveils Future Lighting Technology

Interesting new lighting tech from Audi

The future looks quite promising for Audi and at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the German company unveiled a variety of new technologies, including a new adaptive light for the xenon plus headlights. The new Matrix LED headlights will have small diodes that can be dimmed or individually switched on and off to provide optimal illumination.

The small individual diodes, backed by lenses or reflectors, always provide excellent illumination without needing a swiveling mechanism. This new system will obtain the information they need from a camera, the navigation system or additional sensors. If the camera detects other vehicles, these innovative headlights fade out the appropriate area of the high-beam headlights, which contain various light-source sectors.

The headlights can also illuminate the areas between several vehicles in complex situations. Based on navigation data, the high-beam headlight anticipates the bend and swivels to illuminate the road before the driver has even turned the wheel.

Audi also presented new laser taillights generated by a laser diode that provides drivers behind with a bright, clear signal and a new OLED technology made from an organic material.

That's pretty cool.

The laser rear fog light looks like a good idea, but I can imagine it being annoying when people accidentally leave it on all the time. I sometimes see people who forget their rear fog light on and it's kinda annoying. They probably don't even know their car has a rear fog light!

Isn't supposed CES to be innovative things only?

I'm asking this because Porsche lights (high beams or cornering lights or both) , depedning on the navigation turn off or on automatically. As well close to overpasses or where should be exit signs ,they turn on automtically.

That's pretty cool ideas...especially the lazer idea is a great alternative to rear fog lights...a concept car is a model that demonstrates a new idea, technology or trend...Sure this will be referenced long into the future...

What happens when your stopped at a light behind the Audi.

Does the lazer bean shine directly in your eyes and blind you?

Another problem with the lazer beam.. I am very rarely looking at the road surface while following traffic, I look at the cars ahead.

The human eye can't notice the distance change of an object in a straight line; hence the need for lights. If you can't see the lights... going to make for a lot of accidents!

in before people hate on audi then go buy cheap s-boxes that try to copy that same technology.....oh wait, too late
