I need a new car.... but I live in Dubai...

Alright bitches. My bonus is coming in at the end of the month and it's time to buy a car. I've not owned anything in close to 3 years since I travel too much, but now I am literally sick and tired of taking the metro/taxis. Sure it's cheaper, but got a big zero flexibility. For those who have visited Dubai, you'll know, flexibility and mobility is kind of important. My wife has a car and a new bike so I have her car every once in a while, but that's not enough anymore.

Looking at new cars, I am tempted by the VW Scirocco R or the Golf R. They both have been a bit de-tuned for the high heat we get here, but they still somewhat have good performance. Main difference between the two are the Golf is AWD while the Rocco is FWD. I think the Rocco looks better than Golf, but still.

Most reviews say the R's are not worth it compared to the GTI, but the R's are rarer and look so much better than the GTI's...

I've also looked at the Toyota 86, but honestly, the more I look at it, the more I don't like its look. The wheels, tail lights and front bumper are atrocious and the thing needs a spoiler to look good. The interior is nice and yes it's a fun car to drive, but I want a bit more luxury. I don't want to buy a car that I have to spend another few $$ to start making it look good. Even though people say it's awesome to drive, I need a bit more kick in the pants when I floor the accelerator.

EVO and STI, great engine/performace, Ok looks, shitty interior, boyish nature... no thanks

If I look at used cars, I am tempted by a lot of things, BMW 335, M3, 993 or 997 911 (the 996 looks like poo), C63 AMG, A5, S5, etc. I realize this is not the same category as the ones mentioned above, but the used price is not that far off in some cases. Problem with those is they are either rare as fuck or have ridiculous mileage. If used, I want max 40,000 km.

I am even considering some old school muscle cars since I would barely do any mileage, but they are also very rare. There is a nice 67 Shebly GT500 Eleanor for sale in there, but the price is way beyond my budget...

My budget is max 200,000 AED (you convert, I'm too lazy).

If you wanna browse, you can check www.dubizzle.com or www.autotraderuae.com

Let me know your thoughts or somebody will get hurt real bad... somebody.

FYI, NO MODIFIED cars, the law is too strict for that. Learned that the hard way with my 96 TT Supra...

Your help would be appreciated as I need a new set of eyes on this... been shopping for too long and have no idea what to get anymore.

Cheers !

Care to explain why the laws are too strict for modified cars?

Get yourself a nice Golf R. Otherwise if the budget is right I'd jump into the M3/C63 category. Drive both back to back and make a decision.

To renew your registration, your car is inspected once a year. If they see anything not stock, you can't renew. If it's modified, you either need a local emirati friend to work it out for you or you need to make it stock just for registration... in other words, a major pain in the ass.

Dubai et pas de pagani, bugatti dans tes choix..!?! :p

Lequel qui fait plus de bruit pour aller terroriser londre?

There is an RS4 2006 for 115, 000 AED on dubizzle. Ok its got 113 klicks but to me its a no brainer. That mileage is nothing for a well maintained Audi.

^yeah saw that. emailed the guy already to take it for a spin. but 115k for 113 clicks is too much. I'd pay 100k max

Since in the UAE you have access to the Holden Commodore Rebadged Chevy Caprice; that's what I'd go for... You can pick up a 2010 for under your 200k Dirham (53k CAD) budget with a 6.2 LSx & a 6-speed... You get space, pace (400+hp), good handling (for a barge), V8 rumble & RWD... I'm a fanboy but hey just throwing it in there...

I looked through the autotrader site and found what would be my top 6 choice for your price range. The cars have a bit more than 40 000 km, but none over 94 000 km.

Audi RS6

RS6 Too much mileage

Shelby, maybe...

Alpina, would rather have an M3

M6, ridiculously expensive to maintain

Jag, not a fan

Nissan patrol. Because desert

Was our first car when we moved... fun to dune bash, but we're not into that anymore. Besides, the wife has an FJ Cruiser so, no thanks.

As for the Caprice, I am not a grandpa, Holden or not, it's still a chevy with too much cheap plastic inside.

I read a few of those pushing for the Golf R, why the Golf over the Scirocco ?

I prefer the Golf R since it's AWD and I think it looks better.
