Touareg V10 TDI 2007 vs V6 TDI 2010+...?

the v6 tdi is rated up to 7700lbs towing no ? so you shouldn't have any issues as far as i can see

That I know.......the thing is, based on my experience, when you pull a "roulotte" that has a BIG drag coefficent added, it's better (needed) to have a truck that has twice the pulling capacity than the weight of your load. And if I increase the weight of my roulotte in 1 year or 2 to 5000 lbs....it might not be enough....

Thanks for your input....

V6 TDI.

ok wasnt aware of that ... good to know though... ive never pulled anything with any of my cars lol so this does add to my knowledge

thanks

Yeah, I've looked at the V10 for a few years, I can't get around the rapair bills that the guys are posting on the forums. You have to drop the engine if you want to replace the turbos apparently, and they go out fast. Apparently tranny is average too. Then you have the air shocks that go bad, electronic glitches, that kind of stuff. Engine is very tough, but the rest goes out fast and costs too much when it does. Besides, if something DID happen to the engine, you'll have to scrap the truck, because you cannot find them and they're worth as much as the truck, new.

Any engine parts for the V10 are insanely expensive. I remember looking at a replacement engine block for one a few years ago, and a new one was something like 40K. And if that's too much good luck finding a used one. The good news is these engines should last forever, but if ever you run into catastrophic mechanical failure, the repair bill is likely to be over the cars value.

The V6 will be easier and cheaper to find parts for since it's a more mainstream motor. That's what I'd go with.

Those are really good points that will likely get me toward the newer V6 option....

Now, I need to find one well maintenained, CPO and decently equipped...!

Thanks for your inputs guys...!

One comment that you need to consider and I have had this argument every year since getting my Hybrid is if you are planning on going full trailer (i.e. No tents on the ends) then do it now! We have had ours for a couple of years and I love it but my wife has a hard time with the set-up/tear down time and the noise due to sleeping in a tent with zero insulation. Also if you go south to very hot places make sure you have a good AC system as heat loss is significant.

I am pulling a 4300Lb trailer, probably not the real weigh so check if the sticker is weighed at the factory or base model (and at least 800 for crap you load it up with), with a Grand Cherokee CRD raited at 7200Lb and do agree that you need the extra rating. Through the mountains EGTs can climb rapidly and the engine temp trany temps follow so make sure what size you next trailer is planned to be as I feel I am maxed and need to buy a Truck if I go bigger.

Would you rather have a badass V10 or a V6 like every Camry?

We are talking TDI engines here.....The 3.0 TDI found in the Touareg rated 406 lbs-ft stock is far from a Camry V6 rated just below 200 hp and not even 200 lbs-ft....c'mon...!

I want to pull something close to 5000 lbs in a near future, so what BORA-BOY says will have to be taken into consideration...I'm wondering if a chip on the TDI can solve the problem...

Does anybody know if the Touareg V6 TDI is equipped with a tranny cooler...? My actual Jeep GC V8 4.7L is equipped from factory with the tranny cooler because of the TOW PACKAGE.

Anyways if towing is what you're after I'd probably pick up a Suburban 2500 with the 8.1L V8. Yes it drinks a shitload of gas compared to the Touareg TDI, but they are dirt cheap, they are ridiculously reliable, and very stout. I wouldn't feel as confident towing 8000lbs in a Touareg as I would with a body on frame truck built solely to be a workhorse.

Not 8000 lbs man..."close to" 5000. Otherwise, yes I would've gone with a fifth-wheel so a pick-up would be a better choice.

But I see what you mean....
