So you can have a chalet

Sur le bord d'un lac. Memphre j'aime bien car c'est proche de Sherbrooke mais je trouve sa plate car la navigation est assez limité...

Alors sa serais surment sur le Lac Champlain ou sur le Richelieu.

Not sure if serious?

I'd keep my parent's chalet, on a lake in outaouais. That's the view from the beach in summer,

^^^ android25u : Mont Tremblant is nicer brooo.

ha, just kidding :p

for skiing I actually like Austria better. I was in Solden this winter and Mayrhofen last winter and it's insanely huge. This winter I also spent one day in St. Moritz since it wasn't that far and I wasn't that impressed. Austrians seem to have placed gondolas on every peak and it just keeps on going and going. It's an amazing experience. Going to Chamonix next year and I'll find out what the French have to offer.

That being said, in Europe I'm kind of put off by the Alpine slopes ( you mostly ski above the treeline ) which is nice but I also like seeing some nice thick 100 years old pine trees. Incidentally I get all of this in Romania less than 2h from the capital city. It's breathtakingly beautiful:

Dafuq. Seriously you said nothing about Montreal. .. and im usually one of those people who plays the game well in these types of threads lol.

lol @ some of the answers

anyway, it was obvious to me he was talking about Montreal

For me it would have to be on Lake Champlain, either in Quebec or in Vermont or maybe Lake George (although it gets to be a little far). Since I'm on the south shore the drive is quick enough (which I think is essential to owning a vacation house of this type that you would actually want to use as often as possible. I find than if it's anything more then a 2h drive it becomes too much to go out for the weekend all the time). Lake Champlain is really big so boating is nice and that would be more what I'd be looking for even though it is close enough to several good places for wintersports which is important if ever I want rental income or decide to start skiing or snowboarding.

Laurentians are nice but have become overcrowded which increased the prices and the commute on a Friday evening + the coming back Sunday evening is just awful. Add to that any road work and you're screwed. Plus in my case I'd have to cross Montreal also.

I'll be honest with you, after having sold mine 2 months ago in Tremblant and having to live with the commute to and back, the worst thing you want to have to endure when going to your chalet for the weekend is traffic getting there and returning home!
Did it for 4 yrs and got tired of it. Having to cross Mtl is a chore in itself, but now Laval and St-Jérome, sometimes right upto ''Les Portes du Nord''.
During the summer time coming back to Mtl, traffic between St-Sauveur and Mtl? Not relaxing at all, trust me!
Looking into the eastern Townships now, less lakes than the Laurentians so less chalets for sale unfortunately.
Lac Massawipi is a very nice place but expensive. Controlled boating on the lake, not so many outsiders. Not too far from Mtl. Much less Traffic getting to and back. Take the pontoon and leave for supper in North Hatley.....
