License has nothing to do with the car. Plate is like $85. Tickets. Well I've never gotten a ticket related to my driving (got a ticket for out of date plates though). Even at that add $200. Unless you're towing to Texas maybe $300.

No payments. Car is 20 years old. If you have payments then there's no way your gas bill is close to mine since if you have a compact it should be good on gas.

What they are looking at is the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Which is [depreciation (or payments if it's a lease) + fuel + insurance + registration + maintenance/repairs] divided by the years of ownership.

Where results will greatly differ is in the fuel category just because some people drive 10k km /year and others 40k km.
 
With a 2011 forester on a 4 year lease, If I put everything I spend on the car for a year...it's about 10k. 9500$ for a compact that cost less, takes less gaz and should be cheaper on insurance seems a bit high no?

again, depends on mileage. Also insurance can greatly vary. If they take a 22 yo that lives downtown and has a red civic coupe or a 45yo that lives somewhere in the suburbs and has a beige corolla, insurance for guy 1 could be triple than for guy 2.

I would imagine a realistic avg calculation would be something like

Lease on a Civic EX ~4 000
Fuel for 24 000 km/y ~ 2700$
Insurance ~ 1200
Registration ~ 300
Maintenance ~ 1200 (doing all scheduled maintenance at the dealer + windshield washer fluid etc, this would be the total 4 year maintenance cost/4)
----
Total = 9400$

This doesn't include car washes, detailing, winter tires, any accessories (remote start, tints, mags etc)

So really....not far from the 9500 they're talking about.
 
Je suis p-e a ~8000$(inlcuant une dépréciation de 2500$/année et 1000$ de maintenance) pour mon f150 2007....mais loin du 12500$ du site.
Mettons ca a 9000$ si je met 2000$ de maintenance..ce qui arrive jamais.
 
jsuis a 3900$..

Pis je checkais les datas sur le transport en commun.. 85$/mois pour une passe de bus.. ouais si t'habite a laval ou a montreal.. si jme pogne une carte opus avec rive-nord/Laval/montreal ca me coute 185$/mois + perdre 2h aller 2h retour/jours (4h x mon salaire horaire) = 23,300$/ans

Deja la.. jpense que je suis gagnant
 
3900$ seulement..tu calcul juste le gas et petite dépense..pas la dépréciation certain.

ton salaire horaire pendant ton 45min aller de voyagement en char tu le calcul aussi?
 
J'ai ZÉRO problèmes avec les chiffres. Ça me semble assez juste et c'est clair que proche de 10k$, c'est une moyenne pour quelqu'un qui à une voiture presque neuve en location ou en achat. Le mythe de la voiture neuve qui coûte moins chère que l'usagé qui nécessite des réparations est assez tenace.

J'arrive à 11 800$ sans vraiment vérifier pour ma voiture courante. Ça me semble juste

C'est drôle comment le calculateur chit des briques quand j'essaie de plugger les statistiques en rapport en mon ancienne VW Golf 92, payée 500$ et vendu un peu plus de 2000$, gardée 8ans.

Le char, c`est 800$ par mois... x 12 c`est 9200$ par ans, le gaz c`est 80$ par semaines x 52 . 4160$, so.. par an juste en payer le char + essence je suis a 13360$ . Mais bon, l`char est l`fun a conduire.. c`est ca l`important.

ah et j`ai lol`er sur ca.

ahahah Come on.. j`ai jamais fais 8,7 au 100km, sur l`autoroute p`tre 10l/100 pis en ville ca peux aller dans le 15-18l/100, ma moyenne presentement est a 13.2L/100.

4100 for my sonoma based on the calculator...having a vehicle that already depreciated to the lowest has its benefits.
