News: Crash in the west island

Glad you, or anyone else, weren't seriously hurt because of this.

But on the subject, there would be an awesomely great market for a "shitty-road detection GPS software" for people driving around in Québec.

Instead of giving you directions on when to turn and what not, it could advise you of incoming potholes on a rating from 1-10 and would save wheels / suspension / cars / lives!

Driving around in Montreal would sound like: "9, 7, 4, 7, turn left on Decarie in 100 meters, 8, 3, 5, 7, turn left on Decarie in 50 meters"

inb4 some company takes this idea but implements it horribly and has poor service and still charges too much.

Definetly go to the news. You can definetly sue. Its clear that the Ministry of Transport is declaring and deeming our roads safe when they are phyiscally NOT. the evidence is there. Its clear that the SAAQ, and the Qc gov is collecting taxes and fees and not allocating the funds to which they are being charged for and yet we are under this assumption. Roads need to be replaced and not band aid patched. Its really sad, but Quebec has become such a shithole. and whats worse is that the rest of the world sees it that way aswell. Its clearly apparent that the Tri States, Ontario, New Bruns all share the same weather and environmental conditions yet their roads are not falling apart as the ones here. So the environmental excuse that the Ministy of Transport gives, is based on complete bullshit.

Glad your ok, I sincerely hope that it is with cases like this that sets some precedents that conditions as such are unacceptable and provide grounds for reprocussions against the governing bodies that in all due respect, extort the general public.

Seriously, this is the best post in this thread.

I'm both appalled and mildly mortified by this whole thread.

On the one hand, as drivers we overpay on just about everything for the privilege of using our vehicles on what are supposed to be paved roads. Regardless of how harsh or not the winter has been, snow, ice and sleet, the transport ministry has absolutely no excuses except perhaps incompetence.

On the other hand, advise to everyone who gave the OP a hard time because he flipped his car by hitting a pothole. Look at the picture of that pothole, it's not a pothole beyond a certain radius and depth, it becomes a lake or when dry, some kind of canyon.

I'm glad he's okay and having just come back from running some errands by car, which means I probably paid about 5-6$ in taxes on gasoline alone, not to mention the PST on everything I bought, from the cantaloupe to the bandages I picked up at the pharmacy I can only say one thing: Students protest for free education? lol...

The bulk of Quebec populace should protest for just about everything, lack of social services, lack of health services, lack of QUALITY education (my daughter's high school science teacher couldn't spell to save her life) and recently, lack of infrastructures, lack of judgement in the case of the language police, and apparently now, lack of roads.

Thanks for everyone's support, I have emailed Sophie and will update on what happens next.

I drove by this exit again today, and from the highway the hole actually looks like it increased in size since Friday.
I'll try to snap more pictures soon.

As for a lot of comments shaming my driving, it's easy to say that when assessing what happened from behind a computer.
But when it's happening, at that speed(coming off the highway) the reaction time is measured in fractions of a second.

Glad your okay, it wasn't your fault that's for sure. Tu n'as peut-etre pas réagis de la meilleure facon, mais tu t'en es tiré.

I was there yesterday but missed the exit. Im glad you're OK, the state of our roads is very frustrating

That's exactly what I'm saying. Nearly any accident can be avoided but to be able to do that we'd need to have rally driver skills/attention 100% of the time which is simply not realistic. I srsly hope you get the city to bend over for you.

A pothole like that, right off of the highway, and the government/city can't put a warning sign or cone or anything? How incompetent are these people we pay with our taxes?

Imagine how many city/government workers/police officers drove over that giant pothole and just said "f-it, not my problem" or "not my department".

Disgusting.

I'm glad op is okay.

PS, 911th post...coincidence?

Sorry to hear/see that happen although I'm not surprised about the size and location. Last summer after it rained there were some hard core pools of water that caught me off guard the first time. I hydroplaned, the back of the car stepped out and luckily I recovered but goes to show you that over the winter the shitty paving turn itself into an in ground pool.

Sue the F'ing shit out of the city, God know these assholes are raking in the dough with tickets and if you got a settlement it'd make my recent ticket worthwhile.

Good job with the interview man...

What a childish response on your part, rather than simply saying you disagree you had to make a sarcastic remark, very sad. In any case I did not say you should do some fast & furious manouver, just slow down, hit the potthole straight on and hope your wheel doesn't break. IF the wheel brakes, the city will pay for it. See how in no outcome is there a loss of a car? Now if you try to swerve yeah you might make it without hitting but you also might flip your car. Do you see how in one of the outcomes the car is wrecked?

Settle for busted wheels, keep your car intact... not to mention yourself. Had this guy been a bit less lucky he might be in the hospital. All this to save what? A simple 4x100 civic rim which are available in abundance and cheap.

Un-sub'd because of troll-fags like diplomat who turn serious issues into sarcastic mockery.

Yes, because going through a 3'' deep giant crater at 70km/h only dents rims... Either way, what the fuck!!!?

No driver should have to worry about denting rims, blowing tires, ruining balljoints or cracking bumpers while driving, ESPECIALLY when exiting a 100km/h highway.

Not all of us can afford to just suck it up and go pay whatever damages ensue after hitting a pothole. Of course he tried to fucking avoid it!
