Weekend toy?

used to like JEEP, but they rust faster than Mazda

I'm in desperate need of a weekend toy. I can go in two directions:

1- Obnoxious Jeep TJ with 4.0L i6 and manual transmission, to be kept bone-stock. Yellow or some equally offensive color.
2- Little Miata, Probably NA generation and kept bone-stock. MT of course.

Other possible option: 350z or V8 Mustang, with minor mods, but this is much more expensive with much higher ticket potential so for the moment these turn me off somewhat. I already have a reliable daily driver I won't fuck with, and I already have a decent bike (SV650s).

For sure the Jeep can be used all year round (4x4 for winter, doors/top off for summer). The Miata is a topless street legal go-kart. Same price range for clean examples.

What are your thoughts?

wut?

Whatever you choose, you wont keep it bone stock for long.

The Miata will cost lessto upgrade.

I dunno, epic lift kits do not appeal to me. Stock TJ ground clearance should be more than enough for alleged friday night 3am curb jumping shenanigans.

Miata, fine, but what mods? Already handles well enough and supposedly the power to weight ratio is OK as is, maybe lighter wheels and stiffer sways? Don't wanna get into the hassle and expense of a turbo kit. Just a light, fun car to toss around corners.

On s'entend que a 350z or Mustang GT would require more greenbacks. 350z in my mind 12Gs should be enough. Mustang, maybe 16 because I hate the way they looked before 2005. LS1 would be nice but most of them around here are automatics or have been molested by the previous owner.

I've been lurking on lespac and it seems the car market is just as fucked up as the bike market. Shit-ass corollas/civics, you know, fwd automatics are a dime a dozen, clean and available. The moment the car is the least bit interesting, the guy wants 25-30% more than it's worth.

Might have to do the US thing.

Since I can only speak for that one...

You throw in some coilovers, larger wheels + good rubber, and you've got yourself a hell of a go kart. It's shortly geared, the sound of the stock twincam 1.6L is great, 7L/100km average, bulletproof engines, extremely reliable, maintenance is cheap...

Can't get any better for a cheap ''sports'' car.

Was referring to the ''obnoxious'' part. Bone stock =/= obnoxious. You dont need to be riding 5' in the air on 54'' tractor tires to have a good looking TJ. Especially if all you're gonna do are ''friday night 3am curb jumping shenanigans.'' But even with a small lift kit and 33s, the TJ will cost you more than the Mia.

This.

don't go with a jeep, it's a freaking douchy car that take more fuel than a V8. A jeep is the kind of thing that you're happy when your friend have one and you don't have to deal with any bullshit.

350z @ 8k ? never lol

F-body is only a car that can swerve left to right. It's not really a fast car too. But with a big cam and exhaust you can make something funny.

Miata if you're not fat or big is a good car. Can provide alot of fun but they dont really drift.

Have you thought of just getting a YELLOW CONVERTIBLE JEEP?

Like this.

Or maybe wait a few weeks, I'll have my 1993 Sidekick for sale when I go take it out of storage, I'll throw in the soft-top and you're in business for cheap. It's clean:

It's the red one on the right. It spent almost all its winters in Arizona and was towed behind an RV, the odo shows 323.000km but the engine actually has about 180.000 and I just had the timing belt and water pump replaced in the fall. Everything works except the dash lights dimmer (they turn on but cannot be dimmed), even the rear defrost on the hard top works.

1.6l 8v engine is impossible to kill, 4x4 works but it could use new locking hubs (under 100$ for Calminis) 3 sp automatic.

It's about as fast as a speedy turtle and roadhandles as well.

It has a dent on the front driver's side fender, nothing huge, and a few minor spots of rust on the body, the frame is clean.

Homeboy it's like this,

When we road trip this summer, either way we're gonna look like the giancarlo faggio topless douching brigade. That's fine, but at least in the Jeep the girls can tag along
