Scion FR-S owners in search of more power may have rejoiced when they heard TRD was planning a supercharger for the car, but they’re not going to be so excited once they find out what it costs.

According to a service department document posted on FT86Club.com, the TRD supercharger in question will cost an alarming $26,000!

We first reported that a TRD supercharger was in the product plan after speaking to representatives of Ken Stout Racing at the SEMA Show last year. Ken Stout Racing used the aftermarket parts expo to show off its FR-S race car, which will hit the track in the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge series this year. In order to stay competitive the small 4-cylinder sports car needs a blower, but in order for that supercharger to be legal in the series, Scion has to offer it for sale.

The part number for the kit is detailed at PTR29-00086, though it doesn’t include the engine management software, meaning few will be able to make it run smoothly with the factory engine. Regardless, Scion indicates in the parts notice that the supercharger is intended for “racing use only.”

As though another catch was necessary, the minimum order quantity is two, which really means anyone wanting a TRD Supercharged Scion FR-S will have to buy a spare and toss down $52,000.

At $26,000 for a supercharger kit (roughly six times what Toyota has offered for TRD superchargers in the past), it seems like Toyota is finding a technical loophole to build a competitive World Challenge race car. Though with race teams and enthusiasts still looking to boost their FR-S, perhaps a regular TRD Supercharger is still in the works.

For racing teams only. Not for street use.

As if the price isn't bad enough, having to order two is just plain stupid.

As others have stated though this is surely not the kit they will market for everyone.

BTW, the way I see it is team X doesn't have to buy two, but the dealer ordering does.

Somebody should call the number. 7-9 weeks wait is a long time.

Calm down guys, its a homologation thing
