Okay, I'm looking for some opinions on what to do.
This new neighbor moved in recently, and he has what looks to be an American Pitbull, probably about a year or 2 old.
About 2-4 times a day, he'll let the thing run loose in the lane way out back - Which in my neighborhood (Verdun) connects to all the the backyards/buildings**.
It is completely untrained, it shits everywhere, and has shat in my parking spot, backyard and walkway at least 10 times - And has done the same to a few other neighbors.
It'll literally run wild doing what it wants, and will often bark savagely when it sees someone. It chased me into my house when I tried following it to see where it lives, it also started barking wildly at a buddy who was unloading beer from his trunk, and I've seen it pin a guy in his car while parking, who literally waited for the dog to leave before exiting the vehicle.
The owner is never anywhere to be seen, sometimes he'll yell from his porch, but I have no idea who he is since he never actually comes out to get the mongrel. It has no collar, leash or tags, and would pass off as a stray if you didn't know any better. Another friend of mine saw approximately where he lives (narrowed down to 2 apartments next to each other) when he drove by a few days ago.
I contacted the city with either of the addresses where the dog lives, they gave me some number for the Surveillance du Territoire and said call them when you see it. When did I call, the dude came 45min later and the dog was already home. The city honestly couldn't give a rats ass about a loose dog chasing people.
I'm not sure what to do, I like dogs and have never been scared of them, but seeing a full grown dog with no collar, owner or leash is a little scary when you don't know the dog, and I honestly see this dog as a threat because it is so untrained and literally is running wild - It looks like it'll bite you in a heartbeat, and it doesn't even have any tags for someone to take responsibility if anything were to happen.
Any suggestions?
** - To give you a visual of the alley way if you've never been to Verdump, picture a single lane road, with parking spots/backyards of buildings on either side. There's aproximately 10-15 buildings per side, with 6 units each, and the length is a full city block, so it's kind of long and it's fairly densely populated.
