Les pompier ont enlever que les porte et le toit. Le reste du char toute ecraser c'est du a l'accident.

My father is one of them...he firmly believe that todays new "cheap" Japanese cars are more dangerous because they collapse and crush under impact...I'm ashamed.
 
I think that anyone with a tiny bit of knowledge about cars knows that old cars were built like tanks therefore the body gets all the impact force instead of tomorrows cars that absorbs the impact. So there you have it: your father is dumb
 
They have to make them safer, the gov need us to keep paying taxes, no money in dead people. :D

We have better technology, research and engineering, we better have much better cars than back in the 60-80's or we would have failed advancing.

One of IIHS's top safety pick is the Lancer yay! Still prefer not finding it out on my own lol

Are fathers generation is programmed to be completely hard headed and stuck in the past, they refuse to adapt to new theories and technologies. Trust me I'm ashamed of my dad as well sometimes he pisses me off so much I have to get reaffirming help from fellow MRer RSX Type Smoke before I go crazy as he almost always agrees with me lol
 
Thoses car resisted better upon little dents and bumps, yes. However, the structure of old american cars weren't safe AT ALL.

A few years back i lost a friend, in his sleeper nova, fully built 350..

He lost control after riding up a hill at over 200kph, ended up in the ditch, hitting a concrete entrance. His steering wheel chopped the top of his head off.

Needless to say i'm not in a hurry to buy an old school american, i'll stick to my old-school volvos alright.

Sorry for your loss man. But that is the perfect example of how unsafe the cars were. Your friend wasn't being as responsible as he could've been, but in a more recent car, he would've had a chance in the same circumstances.

No, indeed he should've known better, he was a father of two, leaving his family alone. racing agaisnt a kid with his honda. Kid ran off from the incident, but went to the police station the next day and gave himself away.
But that's a perfect exemple. I bought the car back for parts, but couldn't handle seeing this mess.
 
Fuck safety, i drive a samurai. older body on frame cars and trucks are a lot less safe, but they are stronger than newer unibody vehicule especially for single attachment point ( tow hook, hitch ). just try to tear a body on frame vehicule in half, it would be a lot harder than a unibody, even if the unibody is has more structural rigidity. it is also a lot easier to repair and can take small hit where a unibody will bent.


I still think some older frame are better than newer, the best exemple is the 79-95 Toyota pickup frame and the 95.5 and up tacoma frame. 86-95 toyota pickup are IFS, but they still use the same frame as 79-85 leaf spring solid axle, thus having a frame strong from the front to the rear. so if you want to make a SAS ( solid axle swap ) you weld some bracket and you are good, no reinforcement needed. but if you take a 95.5 tacoma frame, witch is a complete new design, built to have ifs, so the front of the frame is flimsy as fuck. so if you want to SAS it, you need to reinforce the front of the frame. same thing apply for a 2013 tacoma. i am pretty sure a 2013 tacoma frame has better rigidity and safety than a 1979 Toyota pickup, but the frame is probably a lot weaker in the front.

Cars today are much are safer at normal highway speeds, but not much can save you at 200km/h...

22REpower, Prend pas ca comme une insulte, mais ca m'a l'aire tres evident que tu n'a jamais perdu quelqu'un du a une accident d'autos, ou bien que tu n'a pas d'enfants...du moin c'est l'impression que tu donne en disant plus ou moin que tu te fout carrement de la securite.

Lookalike - c'est tres vrai. Dependant de la facon donc l'accident arriver, les chance sont grandement reduit, peut importe la voiture. Mais dans une vielle voiture, les chance sont a 0.1% de survit, tandit qu'avec une voiture neuve, c'est plus proche de 10-15% (mon estimation, pas un chiffre reel)
