So ive been robbed inside my car again, it happened a few times over the last few years. I got my hubcaps on my winter rims stolen, someone tried forcing the garage door.

All this in like the last 5 years and im getting tired of this sh*t

Does anyone here have any info or experience on home surveillance cameras?
I need something for outdoors, possibly with an hard drive and would like to be able to check it on my phone

What do you people use?

I have three cameras setup to watch my private property, two on the backyard and one on the front.

I use an old Android phone with IPWebcam installed, I attached it to a window using a car suction cup mount.

I use a night vision D-Link 932 wifi camera.

I use an eBay bought outdoor wifi camera.

I record movement with iSpy on an old laptop. I used to upload stills to my Google Drive but then with the winter it started snowing and when it snows the software continuously records so it kept on filling up my Google Drive whenever it snowed.

Works well.

i've been living in the same place for the last 20 years, we have a pretty nice setup in a decent montreal neigborhood with a backyard and 2 car garage 5min from the plateau and 10 min from downtown.

Unless it became very very bad I would never even think of moving,
I don't live in the ghetto its basically stupid petty theft everytime, nothing big but still a pain in the ass. Im 90% sure i know who did it, the problem is police wont do shit

You my friend are ready for anything,.

Cameras are nice, and you should have them, but i would get a progressive security system as well to aid on the prevention side. If you want something basic a bright light activated by motion detection will do.

zoneminder is the best in diy. Best surveillance software on the market imho. And its free. All you need is a pc, capture card, and any camera that's working with the software. ( there's many of them, you can find the list on the wiki).

A camera is only a deterrent. Someone shows up with a mask and it will do absolutely nothing good. For good measure an automatic sentry rifle with laser guidance would be ideal.

Something like:

would be awesome!

So he's ganna sit on his porch 24/7 with a 12 gauge and shoot anyone who gets near his property?

I agree with evoix, a flood light connected to a motion detector, thieve comes on driveway, light comes on, thieve runs away

Put this on your window

costco has a nice kit for 500$ weatherproof

720p cameras w/ night vision
motion detect sends you emails
can watch from your smartphone

Costco.ca. ..... Q-see cameras. Amazing systems. Live feed on your smart phone. Proximity alarms! You will sleep in peace.

C'est bien des caméras mais ça ne vous empêchera pas de vous faire voler. Un flood light avec détecteur de mouvement, c'est mieux à mon avis.
