Provo, Utah Third City Getting Google Fiber - Tom's Hardware

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Fiber

Google Fiber is a project to build an experimental broadband internet network infrastructure using fiber-optic communication. The service will offer three options. These include a free broadband internet option, a 1 Gbps internet option for $70 per month and a version that includes television service for $120 per month. The internet service includes 1 terabyte of Google Drive service and the television service includes a 2 terabyte DVR recorder in addition to the Google Drive service. The DVR will record up to eight live television shows simultaneously. The television options also includes a Nexus 7 tablet that will act as a remote control for the system. In addition, television service will also stream live program content on iPad and Android tablet computers.

This makes Bell or Videotron look like a 56K connection lol. How are they going to compete with this? We can't get this technology fast enough.

Bell Fibe FTTH/FTTB can go up to 2.4 Gbps. Unless you have a server, i don't see why you would need more than 150 mbps ...

Bell Fibe could do the same thing for customer with FTTH but there's no demand for those speeds.

I don't think Google has the money to build its own network all over the USA. IIRC it will cost over $1 trillion to do it.

It'll be a google labs thing.

I remember a while back there being an issue about it coming into canada (federal regulations thing, something about backbone companies being in contract with the government) but I did alos hear a rumor about 3 months agaon about google looking for Fiber engineers in ottawa.

yes, this thing is fast, but it's WAY too fast for a single computer. it does about 960mbs/second down and about 920mbs/sec up. I's meant for a network, and will throttle harddrive and ssd write speeds.

Honestly I'd love for it to come here, but I doubt it will.

you can already get gb fiber networks here, but it's a LOT more expensive than what google offers (I think it's between 750-1200$ a month depending on providors?) t's not so bad if you split it out in a residential building.

for more 1080P video of adult entertainment, if you know what I mean.

probably a couple of guys on the NO FAP challenge will test that speed :p and reset their count

if its really at 70$, that's really amazing, I' paying something 90$ with videotron right now
