Ok... So i got a new car and i called my insurance TD MM. Ive been with them 2 years so far so good. We go through the questonaire blah blah...

Then pops up the question " do you have any modifications". I told them it has a Cold Air Intake.

Now the guy on the line goes" well im not sure if we can insure you, goes to talk to the manager, comes back like i dont know i have to do an inquiry i will tak a couple of days"

WTF???????? Is this normal? They said that they might decline my coverage because of CAI!!!!

They quoted me $190/month which is really good. Everywhere else i check i get like $300... Can someone recomend me another " mod friendly" insurance that wouldnt destroy my wallet?

If you have no reclamations or almost, I would suggest you BNC, they give me excellent quotes, I'm young everything it is on my name I have an audi 2007 and I pay 90$ two ways.
Try you have nothing to lose :)

loled at cold air intake declaration.

x2..... most of those reps don't have any idea what that is. To them, you just declared you have an extra 200hp. Just don't say anything next time when there is nothing worthy of mentioning..... you learned your lesson.

Here I am, not yet having declared my motor swap, and some kid is declaring his cone filter... The irony is killing me xD

My insurance never asked and even if they would I'd say no.
Tell them u were mistaken and the car is stock from factory man.

Exacte, moi aussi. J'ai un échapement avec des embouts polis, un entré d'air chromé, et le turbo d'origine avait un problème, je l'ai fait changer au garage pour un turbo moins dispendieux que celui vendu au concesionnaire.

my factory airbox, blow off valve, boost controller, exhaust, intercooler all magically fell apart. my ecu lost all its data but a nice guy was able to restore it the best he can.

also my windows got a tan after being out in the sun too long and now they're all dark.

Lmao at all the replies!!!

But all jokes asside. The rep told me that if an accident happens and they find out you had undeclared performance mods, the company can legally decline coverage.

He actually said smth like " all those kids with their JDM cars who dont declare shit are f***** So if you fall asleep and fly into a porsche dealership and hit a pillar that causes the whole building to collapse ( they assume its because of the CAI) and they will refuse to pay....

Don't tell insurance that any mod has been done to increase the performance of you car, ever, unless you want to pay double, if not more. Any performance parts to them is an automatic street racing red flag.

Most guys don't even declare motor swaps, let alone an air filter.

And, I don't see how they can't cover you because of an air intake. There's nothing illegal about changing the way your air filters to your motor. What if you insure the car and THEN add parts? Are you supposed to call your insurance company every time you change something?

Well according to them, yes you have to declare all your mods when you add them. Not doing so is considered misinforming them:(

Actually i did some research and it turns out that TD MM is known for this kind of attitude towards mods :(

I guess I will try to find another company

I remember declaring mods on my old Prelude but haven't declared anything since on any cars.

If I was to consider declaring/insuring anything it would be my wheels since they were almost 4K. I'd get jipped with stock wheel replacement.

If you can afford to replace it I wouldn't bother mentioning it but its still funny they freaked out over a CAI

I'll ask my insurance for you...im in the middle of talking to them about insuring the Forester i just picked up

I've never declaired any mods on any of my cars, I've also have only ever had 1 way insurance, but even with full coverage I probably wouldn't say anything either. If anything happens you would still be covered for just the stock car value in most cases.

Guys im not talking about the replacement cost :)

They told me that they will cancel EVERYTHING. They wont pay any of my repairs, nor will they pay the other repairs or any 3rd party liability. And this is the really scary part. Because wtv the pflow was 200$ but if u have $1,000,000 in damages and they dont pay ur in a quit unpleasant situation
