Apprentice electrician looking for work...

Anyone know of any electrical contractors in need of a bilingual 1st year apprentice? I was layed off about 3 weeks ago (end of contract) and have been doing occasional work for my last employer. I'm not the kind of guy to sit at home on unemployment, I'm a serious worker looking to work! I'm getting married this September and need my hours and a paycheck lol. It's Super stressful not knowing if I'm going to have work the following week or not. I'll be a second year in June/July, I'll do industrial/residential/commercial doesn't matter, whatever I need to do to earn my keep. I've tried most large companies and all of them seem to be stalled in terms of work. I live in Ile-bizard so the closer the better, but not necessarily a deciding factor since I'm usually all over the island anyhow. I need your help Mr!

Thanks

same situation man . quebec gonna quebec . i even pass by my friends who got they friends contrators . they said we even fired some ppl cuz not alot of work .

Construction is going through slow times, contractors are bidding at cost levels for jobs, big companies had layoffs a few weeks ago (I'm guessing you're in that batch of workers). Don't worry about the work, it'll pick back up in May.

In the meantime, You should go to Lumen's in Pointe Claire around 6-7 am every day, see who has work, hand out cv's. Best thing you could do really. Show you are ready and serious about working. This is how I got my current job. Guy offered me a day(the first day I was out going cv's) to see how I work paid cash, I got my tools in my trunk and went to work, hired the following day. IMHO, it's how you find the best workers.

And please, don't wait around for the union to place you. You don't want to be one of those guys.

Thanks for the tip about lumen, I'll try it this week. I'm not one of those typical union guys either, didn't even call them yet. Apprenticeship is so long in the first place, it's gonna take forever to get through it with all the work slowdowns. Anyone in the same boat? I hope second year is easier to find work? I just want to get through it already and get my cards.

I was with rgf for a while, I did all the leds outside the new mtl planetarium... And most recently with royal electric at the municipal garage in chateauguay, did nearly all the interior lighting. Royal called me for 3 10hour night shifts last week, but they have nothing consistent to offer. (no work again this week)

Good luck. I studied to be an electrician also but couldn't find any work as an apprentice. I spent a good 6 months applying everywhere. I just gave up and went to do other things in my life, but I sometimes regret not having pushed harder to find a job in that field.

Let me know if anyone hired you and is looking for more people. ;)

Bumping this thread.

I finished school about 2 weeks ago and I'm looking for work. If anyone has any leads and wants to share them, that would be great!

^Commeercial jobs are down this year. Thank the 'commission' that has got many projects being pushed back out of fear. I'd recommend looking in the residential sector.
