Yes, I've seen this done, definitely a good idea!

The city is making a killing off people not knowing there is time already and people paying over and over.

I will say, their phone app is the best thing ever though.
 
I usually do that or if I have time left and someone's waiting to park at my spot as I pull out, I pass the ticket. It's just a little courtesy
 
Wish someone would make an app that tells us how much time left on the spots . Same way the ticket master cheks to see who's time has ran out.
 
The new style meters are horseshit. Paid for an hour the other day, then went back because I realized I needed more than an hour. Put another two bucks in for my spot (already had like 3$ in at the time) and of course it just reset the time, instead of adding it to what I had paid before.
