Oblivion

Wow... Tom Cruise is joining other actors in a role of a dimming "star". I was never a big fan of his from the first time that I saw Top Gun. His look is always the same, neutral with a dash of cockiness... His "Acting" is as interesting as watching a person breathe and the "plot" is thin at best.

Having said that, Oblivion did offer some fantastic cinematographic shots and no wonder that they wanted to shoot in Iceland. Having seen some very nice Icelandic sceneries, I can say that location was key.

As for the story itself, even when the movie ends, there are many pieces of the puzzle missing. Without giving too much of the ending, one can question how they got up there or how the TET showed up.

What irked me also is how this movie STOLE many elements from movies such as : iRobot, Minority Report, The Matrix, Moon as well as 2001:Space Odyssey... The movie feels hollow and empty. Character evolution is laughable at best and the only good acting would go to Olga Kurylenko (which plays a somewhat convincing role).

I left the cinema feeling gypted and that I wasted 2 hours of my life. I was fortunate to not have paid to go see this movie at Guzzo, friend was buying, but I do feel that Hollywood is running out of ideas.

Anyone else in the same boat as me?

I liked it, I was entertained. Sure it has flaws, but not important enough for me to say that I wasted my money.

As far as Tom Cruise's acting, it has been more or less the same since pretty much ever but I enjoy it every time I see his movies.

This the conclusion I've come to with Tom Cruise movies: None of his movies are ever amazing, and none of his movies are ever terrible.. they're all fairly average. His acting is nothing to write home about, he's just a good looking one trick pony.

For me it was a solid 8/10.

Sure if you are a science-fiction fan, you may be a little disapointed compare to prometheus (wich i really liked), but its still a solid movie.

I dont know why but the noise that the sentry make, remind me of Half-life 2

In interview with a vampire he was really good

, So im not the only one that, found the acting to be meh.

Story for some reason didnt sound original, but more of a mix of what mentioned above ( i would also like to add the movie '' The island'')

Still found it amusing to watch,

Loved the drones though !

x2

I enjoyed the movie too.

TC was also OK in the Last Samurai.

But agreed he doesn't much of a "range", acting-wise. He is the male Jennifer Aniston - sour puss and not much else.

Interview with the Vampire was bad ass

Just came back from seing Oblivion.

I really enjoyed this movie and thought the story line was very well layed out. There are some similarities to other classic sci-fi movies and even novels like 1984 but it's plot is still original and kept me hooked the entire time.

I thought the music was also excellent and really matched the impressive photography.

All-in-all, if you're a sci-fi fan and can appreciate a good post-apocalyptic plot, you will like this movie.

7.5/10

What do you mean, how the tet showed up? It was in orbit around titan and flew to the earth afterward....

You pretty much get all the answers at the end. I liked the movie alot too. It was a nice movie to see on the big screens.

Yeah, after reading the OP's review I was expecting a plot filled with holes that leaves you with many question but it was quite the opposite..

They explain everything and the end is far from ambiguous!

Thats true, but I wouldn't call that a 'Tom Cruise' movie.. that was a star studded cast.. he's a supporting role to Brad Pitt, who's MUCH more of an actor then Cruise will ever be.

Does Oblivion mean Jurassic Park is off of IMAX downtown?
