any fixie fans here?

Just get a normal bike (and give it a fixie/hipster look if you wish), IMO it's a stupid trend.

Otherwise I'm shopping for a saddle reat now (50-60$ max), if anyone has a suggestion.

My bike doesn't look so great, but it's better like that it won't get stolen although it has a carbon fiber frame.

thanks for the input guys much appreciated.

btw, what is the ideal frame material for daily usage? steel or aluminum? or cf?
is weight difference noticeably significant between cf and aluminum?
im lurking thru kijiji and there are alot of aluminum frame but cf are few.

all three can be light but at a different cost. Steel is comfy less rigid then aluminum, but usaly aluminum is lighter, finally carbon is light and more comfy, but again it depend on other factors like the geometry and what kind of fork.

Yea it's an Aerospoke. The lip is Aluminum but the rest isn't, so the brakes can clamp on to there.
I've seen some new ones with the lip premachined for brakes, but I bought mine used so the rubber brake pads are doing the machining.

Large.

Just get a steel frame. Weight doesn't matter if you're not doing lots of hills. If your budget can allow it, look into a Pake Rum Runner frame.

I'm 5'11 and I ride a smaller sized frame ( fitted for 5''6 )
Depends on what feeling you're looking for.

I prefer steel as a material ( sturdier ) and smaller ( nimbler ).

Also depend on your leg lenght, crotch height, arm lenght.
Go into a bike store and grab 2-3 bikes, ask them to mesure you and let you try various sizes according to all those factors.

Ha, funny, I'm buying a fixie (flip-flop) tomorrow.

I have a carbon road bike, but wanted something I could take to the gym, to my friends/girlfriends house, and something I just don't have to worry about if I want to bike somewhere. With my road bike, although it's in a secure environment when I cycle to Concordia (there's a cage in the parking garage), it takes 30 seconds for a fellow cyclist to take the $150 computer, the $60 CF water bottle cages, or worse, a damned expensive rim. Furthermore, it's still in excellent shape, so I'm worried about hipsters hitting it with their steel clunkers and even when I park it in the metal bike racks and I know it's getting dinged and scratched up.

I'm usually always in the same gear anyways, so the fixie isn't a sacrifice, nor is it much heavier than my road bike (since it's fairly stripped down). I'm going with aluminum frame, because it's cheaper then carbon and steel isn't as popular...or at least it's harder to find nowadays.

I thought about building up my own, but then decided I'm too busy/lazy, and would rather just buy one already complete.

I'll post pictures of my hipsterbike later.

Ordered a fix gear a little more then a week ago, should be in soon, I'll post pics once I get it :D

I dont mind fixies but I'll stick to my bmx bike. It might be smaller but at least I can do more than foot plants and skids...
