Just bought a condo: contractor problem.

So I'm buying a new construction condo. The only thing installed already in the place was the shower and the entrance stairs (4-5 steps). I later found out that was because someone had purchased it, and then the deal fell through.

Anyways, they ripped out the shower cause I wanted something different.
As for the stairs, they are very light wood, and I have chosen very dark wood floors for the place.

I told them I would like them replaced since they dont match what I've chosen, and they weren't my choice, but they are expecting me to pay $1500 if I want to change the stairs.

I feel like I'm paying quite a bit of money for something new, I don't see why I'd be stuck with stuff I didn't choose.

Anyone have any clue where I can start with all this? Who I can contact?
We've spoken to the salesman, he's now become a little bitch saying its out of his hands.
The contractor is saying the ony way they'll change it is if I pay.

Next step today is calling the head office.

If that changes nothing, I want to know who to turn to.

First off, don't panic. When it comes to buying a new condo (especially in these times), you're in control. If your contract states a certain type of flooring, they have to deliver. If they don't, don't notarize the purchase until you get every single thing that was promised, otherwise you will be left in the woods. The minute they know you'll hold off from paying them, they'll be scrambling to give you anything you want.

Whatever you do, don't go to the notary until you get EVERY SINGLE THING you signed for.

Stay firm and polite, there is no need to be rude just yet. The best thing is to whithold payment until you get what you bought and signed for. If they are not the right steps you have them changed at their expense. Pass by often and make sure they deliver what you asked for?

As a builder, if something was installed. Then we have an accepted offer, if in that offer there was nothing specified about the entrance steps, then sorry to say it's your fault for overlooking that detail. Wood floor color is interior and if I understood your post correctly. The outside entrance steps are not to your liking?

My gf's fighting like crazy for this, it doesn't bother me as much as it bothers her.

Worse comes to worst, anyone know how much a professional stain job would cost?

You should man up a bit. She's right to fight for it. Is the contractors name Emmanuel? If so, you should PM me in a hurry.

Nope, not Emmanuel.

Anyways, I went and spoke to the salesman. He was 100% understanding after we spoke to him face to face. The president/owner of the company is back to work from vacation tomorrow. He's gonna speak to him, and he also gave us his number so we could speak to him directly.

Just make sure you're firm and 100% respectful.
The contract u signed is simply a promise to purchase and isn't final.
It's finalized And becomes official at the notary so stick to your guns and let them absorb the cost of the stairs.
They can't win in court because they're acting in bad faith for misleading you.

Don't stress and just talk it out because I highly doubt they will go to court anyway.
You really think they're gonna lose a sale for a 1500 ? Especially when they're at fault ?
