Circulation à vélo: la saison des contraventions

i can call myself a cyclist as i often use my bike to go to school and work in downtown. but what really pisses me off sometimes is those fkin cyclists who decide to ride on the road with cars rather than riding in the dedicated bike path right next to the road. you can see those fuckers often on maisonneuve street. i mean, the city decided to use my tax dollar to make those bike path, so fking use it instead of being a disturbance to the other drivers.

and speaking of having less space for cars, have you guys noticed that they are eliminating parking spaces in dt by extending part of sidewalks to plant some tree and little plants? it kills more free parking space that is already fking rare, and it chokes the traffic.

Tell me about it! I do 15km of bike each day around my areas and I ALWAYS use the bike lane. Yesterday I was following a spandex guy at the same speed and he was riding in the street all along, I was freaking pissed but since I don't like the drama I didn't asked him.

I know some members here do that and when you ask them why, their answer is that the bike path are too crowded and they go too fast. While it may be true in some areas (that I have yet to see) in my area, the bike paths are always empty. The spandex guy had absoloutely no reasons not to use it.

And even if there is occasionaly slower biker or rollerblader on the bike path, just slow down and pass them, or go in the street until you've passed them, how is it so complicated?

Yeah most cyclists who don't use bike lanes use the ''I ride too fast for the bike lane'' excuse. I really don't get these guys riding so hard in urban areas. They should slow the hell down and ride fast in areas that's not heavily congested, just like I don't race my car downtown.

If your a sweaty turd instead of calling for the STM to spend millions on AC... lose weight and/or get medications.

OH so they say they are going too fast compared to the majority?

Time to introduce the speeding tickets to cyclists in urban areas.

Because people riding bikes dressed like they're part of the Tour de France are most of the time dbags riding average speed or slower acting like they're the shiznit. Except a few people actually training for one reason or another.

Concept assez extraterrestre ici on dirait.

So if i'm riding on Lakeshore, where the limit is 30, If i can easily maintain 35km/h, why should i not be able to ride on the street?

No reason not to IMO. Those saying otherwise are just a little over the top narcissistic and probably over weighted...

Question, who here ever got a Ticket on a Bike? what was it for? :dunno:
this scares me

I somewhat do these horrible things mentioned... dont lie people 90% of bikers do
the few time i do bike in the city, i do have earplugs , (usually only one, or on low volume)
REd lights when theres no one i go... but i always stop
Stop signs when on deserted road, i simply slow down a bit

Basically i use common sense and never pissed off anyone,

I've bike in the city with this "mentality" (minus the earplug becasue I want to ear that silent bike coming up behind me...) for 20years now and have gotten only 1 ticket for crossing a railway. They give most of their tickets on busy bike path at rush hour.

Sure, if there is no bike path, but we all know people drive 40-50 km/h on those roads. But thats not the point. If there is a bike path, why wouldn't you use it???

1. The bike path has a speed limit of 20km/h . This is the reason for all of the sharp bends. I can maintain 40 for over 30 minutes.
2. The bike path is full of retards riding 2 wide.
3. It is full of 5 year olds learning to ride their bike.

If I can easily ride 10 over the limit, its not my problem that you're in a hurry on lakeshore. I have 3 cars, I pay registrations on them. I'll use the roads if I am training.

We have bike paths along some of our country roads here. Many roadsides were actually widened in the last few years for that purpose, but still, you'll find most cyclists on our side of the white line anyway.

They're the first to ask for courtesy, and ask to share the roads and what not but it seems that most of them only want it their way.

Friendly reminder to cyclists: My freedom begins where yours ends, but when my car is in motion, my freedom cannot be stopped by yours.
