Totally worth 30$. Sometimes I'm willing to offer 50$.

We have bike paths along some of our country roads here. Many roadsides were actually widened in the last few years for that purpose, but still, you'll find most cyclists on our side of the white line anyway.

They're the first to ask for courtesy, and ask to share the roads and what not but it seems that most of them only want it their way.

Friendly reminder to cyclists: My freedom begins where yours ends, but when my car is in motion, my freedom cannot be stopped by yours.

I read that last sentence 4 times and still don't understand it. This isn't 'Merica, if that's what you're implying.

Regardless, it's important to note that cyclists have rights on the roads, just as motorists do. If I feel the need to, I could legally occupy an entire lane. Of course I wouldn't, but I think a cyclist trying to avoid the dirt/sand/shit on the shoulder during the beginning of the season is understandable.

Finally, we want it "our way" because we are vulnerable and this is Quebec. The drivers are shitty, rarely courteous, and don't understand the rights of road users. When all you have between your skin and the asphalt is a thin piece of Lycra, you'd be on the defensive too.

1. The bike path has a speed limit of 20km/h . This is the reason for all of the sharp bends. I can maintain 40 for over 30 minutes.
2. The bike path is full of retards riding 2 wide.
3. It is full of 5 year olds learning to ride their bike.

If I can easily ride 10 over the limit, its not my problem that you're in a hurry on lakeshore. I have 3 cars, I pay registrations on them. I'll use the roads if I am training.

So you don't respect the road limit in order to not go over the limit on the bike path?
That limit is pure BS, no cyclist has gotten a ticket for riding at over 20km/h. You're going to tell me they do radar on bike path now?

Second reason: That may be true in your area, I don't know. Not in mine tho. I can safely say that in my area there is NO reasons not to use the bike path, its always empty. Hence why 90% of cyclist does, even the one fully covered in spandex. But there is that occasional narssisic spandexdouche that is bent on staying on the roads.

And when that happens, its annoying for everyones, cause people are unsure when to pass him, so its creates a long line of cars behind, and people start to slowly pass the douche, then there is a stop that the douche obviously is not going to do, so he passes every car again, and it goes on and on and on like that.

It's not the speeding tickets we care about. My buddy was cruising along the bike path on his road bike, not too fast, around 25km/h. He went around a corner and the person coming the opposite way (not a road cyclist, some guy on a mountain bike) lost control and hit my buddy dead on.

The result: My buddy broke his neck, and was out for quite a while. If he wasn't wearing a helmet, odds are he'd be dead.

So yea, fuck the bike paths and the morons that come with it. The bike paths in Montreal are dangerously busy (especially during weekends and evenings) and I avoid them whenever possible. I cruise at 30km/h, which is the speed limit. If cars are in a rush they should be on the highway.

That could have happened in the street too.

But I do agree that if the bike path are too busy.... Like I said, I speak for my area, the bike path are always empty.

Ronin: Very constructive posting as always. I bike everyday just so you know. Never had problems using the bike path in my areas at any speed. When there is someone slower, I pass him by the street, and get back on the bike lane.

Bike lanes are safer, smoother and there is usually no manhole on it, why not use it when its empty? And 95% of cyclist do use them, even the ones that train for the olympics. My rant is about the 5% that are hell bent on being in the street in my area.

All I'm saying about the speed limit, is that if I can maintain and exceed it, what is the problem?

If the path is empty, ill take it. The corners provide good technical challenge. The reason for the limit is to keep people slow.and safe on the very narrow path it is congested. My training loop runs me through lachine, and the canal on a Saturday morning is a shitstorm. People walking their dogs on the path is another major issue.

As fat as lakeshore goes, the path between lachine and pointe claire is on the shoulder, where all the manholes are. If you're running a 23 tire, you can't hit one dead on. Would you rather someone riding consistently at 35, or someone erratically weaving in and out of traffic avoiding manholes?

I walk my dog near my house on a bike path because you almost never see people riding on it, you see more people walking their dogs or just walking on it than people riding. Was a total waste of money fixing the old one since it was not used anyway, 4 blocks of path just starts up at a random point and ends the same way.

While on a bicycle...
Riding between two rows of moving vehicles $15 to $30
Riding on a sidewalk $15 to $30
Riding against the flow of traffic (unless signs or signals indicate otherwise) $15 to $30
Riding on the roadway other than the far right $15 to $30
Riding with earphones or a headset $30 to $60
Drinking alcohol while riding $15 to $30
Turning right at a red light where signs prohibit it $15 to $30 + 3 demerit points
Failure to stop at a red light or stop sign $15 to $30 + 3 demerit points
Failing to yield the right of way at an $15 to $30 intersection users who have priority + demerit points
Failure to obey a road sign or traffic light $15 to $30
Failing to ride in single file $15 to $30
Failure to signal one’s intentions (stopping and turning) $15 to $30
Failing to hold onto the handlebars $15 to $30
Riding two on a bicycle without a fixed seat for the purpose $15 to $30

is this real?

if so, it's ultra fucking gay.

No I perfectly understand don't worry. I was really speaking about my area. Here there is no tight turns on the bike lane, and we have 2 bike lanes, each one across the street for each direction. They are smooth, very well maintained and virtually empty all summer long. I'll try to post some pics today while I do my bike ride. You can go over 40km/h on them without any problems and all the while, being very safe from retard drivers.

Seriously, you have to be retarded not to use them here, you just annoy everyone and you take absolutely unecessary risks for nothing. (not speaking at you)

EDIT: Ok took some pictures today:

As you can see, alllll the manholes and defect are in the street and the bikepath are empty and there is no tight turn. You can easely maintain a speed of over 40km/h on those. There is 2 bike path, on for each direction and they are always empty, even afterwork hours. Ronin and cie will have to give me some explanation as to why it was necessary for that particular ''spandex guy'' to ride in the street before you can call me retard or ignorant.
