It's starting to become pretty obvious that school really isn't for me at this point in my life. It's not like I can't get good grades. When I apply myself I have done well in class. The problem is just that my motivation is going down to nothing. I find myself totally unable to focus on my studies and I can honestly say I hate every minute of the time I'm at school.

I'm just worried that I'm going to end up working some shitty job for the rest of my life and totally regret this decision.

So, do I have any chance of making it in life if I stop? Everyone has a story of someone who dropped out of school and became successful, but I feel like it's one in a million.

It's not necessarily the school degree that will directly lead you to being successful..school develops a certain way of thinking that makes your day to day and life choices more intelligent and sound, which will lead to the success. I was in the same boat as you and I don't regret staying in school at all. A lot of my friends did not continue with school and I see a big difference in the way I view life compared to them. You can still be successful without the schooling but the chances are it will be a lot harder than toughing out a mere 5 years of your life to finish it off. And for the whole it's not for me etc that's just an excuse to not want to put the effort. Imo suck it up put the work in, you won't regret it.

no one likes being stuck at school and study for years. there are two types of drop-outs. the first type, which reprensents 95% of them, are dumb and lazy ppl that are stuck with a low wage job for their entire life and will never go far and enjoy their lives. the 5% rest are people that are ambitious, creative and confident people that have their own projects on mind. they will be successful in life and become great entrepreneurs and make more money they the other 95%.

there are lots of blue collar manual labor that pays lots of money too btw. its up to you and your ego an physical capacities to see if manual labor is for you.

at the end, you will never get a high positioned job or be at corporate level if you dont continue school. but if you are smart enough you can still be successful and make lots of money by your own means.

I was in the same situation in cegep, i ended up finishing but not with the best grades but instead of going on to university I went to trade school. I still don't have a good job or anything lol but there wasn't much in university that interested me and my grades weren't good enough to get in anyway.

All I can say is at least finish cegep and do as well as you can, then maybe look into doing something else after that but don't waste too much time trying to decide.

i went to cegep and university.

you can barely get a good job with a bachelors degree these days. while it is important to find something you are passionate about, getting a degree is important too. DO NOT GIVE UP. After 6 years with only a BA ive managed to get a job paying 70k/year and am just now looking to go back and get my MBA for future earnings potential. If i could go back, i would apply myself and work much harder, it DEFINITELY pays off to work hard in school.

My University Degrees are not what led me to success. I designed a system that got a provisional patent. But the degree was essential to get the right contacts and funding. I don't regret it. I love what I do.

Many self made men are self thought and drop outs. If you don't have a plan right now however, stay in school.

Just because of that, do not give up and finish it.

I was in a point of dropping university since I couldn't get good grades and in which resulted in loss of motivation. With people around me telling me to not give up, I managed to finish it. Now to think back about it, I would have highly regret if I've really dropped university back then as when you'll be looking for a good job, i still find this "paper" is very important unless you have connections.

gd luck

Obviously success will never come by sitting at an entry level job all my life.

It seems like you need to be completely self made.

There is also all these people with high education who end up working with me cause there is no god damn job in their line of work.

If your goal is a Career , you better go to school!

If all youre looking for is a place to make a cute living ( earning a decent amount of money ) ,you dont necessary need the degrees , just find something that suits you.

And most importantly , if youre looking for a job that makes you feel important , do not stop your studies.

I'm a drop out. I currently work a very well paid job that has very good opportunities and I have gained over the years a lot of experience which has let me to believe that in certain domains experience>school. In any case, my future plans do not involve anything taught in school.

My parents think I'm a deception... I went to University and paid out of pocket for two years to realize that I wasn't learning anything at ALL. How do I know? I went in the branch in which I already worked in so I knew what the "job" was but I wanted to get the degree in order to go up faster. Waste of time in my books... For the degree I wanted to go in, I also realize now, after all my other friends finished school, that none of them love their jobs and also they are very underpaid. Maybe later in life it'll come in handy but I want to be my own boss so a diploma really isn't needed.

You gotta know one thing; I worked my fkin ass off HARD. I didn't just let off school and worked part time....

Think of school as a safety net. Tough it out now and spend the next 60 years of your life being a fisherman or a bartender in some remote tropical island in the middle of nowhere or doing whatever the heck you want.

But at least when or if you ever decide to have a more traditional/corporate job you have something to back you up.

Unfortunately that little piece of paper is important in the eyes of many employers; maybe not so much with people you will do business with, but if you want to be an employee somewhere/some day to settle down or whatever reason, you increase your changes of landing a job by having finished (at the very least) Cegep.

I find myself totally unable to focus on my studies and I can honestly say I hate every minute of the time I'm at school.

Now yé un peu trop tard.

Life is a bitch, huh? :D
