My ford escape on kijiji.. and this weird offer

So heres the story, a friend of mine recently sold a mazda tribute 2003, and a guy came over checked it out, paid cash, did the transfer and shipped the car to west africa. (weird as hell, i always thought this was a scam)

Now a year later.. My escape is on kijiji, and i get a call from a polite lady shes in the USA right now apparently. Shes visiting family and is looking for a car to bring home (apparently escapes are overpriced in West africa.. I checked and damn they are!) She asks me my lowest price and says all she has is 2k besides the shipping fees ( my truck is 2,500 with a bunch of tires / mags ) I removed all the extra mags/tires from the purchase and dropped price to 2k. Now she says, a friend of mine in Dorval(henri-bourassa) is gonna call you and setup a meet to inspect it, he'll pay you cash, and do the transfers at a saaq(my problem is I finish late and I can't go during weekends), and dump the car in a container and ship it over.

Anyone ever hear about this ? I'm grabbing a friend and heading over there tomorrow to meet him in person. It's odd, but if I feel this gets any weirder i'm out. Gonna check the money, take a pic of his license and his medicare card too if he decides to purchase. I spoke to the guy (Augustine) and he said, we can sign a proxy form , you take your plate, and I'll dump the truck in a container (no plans on using it) He said, it will be transfered first thing in the morning so the truck can leave legally asap.

I know there have been alot of toyota SUVs getting stolen and shipped over there and dubai. I would not be surprised if people were doing it legit too. American cars are dirt cheap here. If he pays you in cash, who cares what happens to the car after?

My friend did something similar when he sold his cutlass. The car went to france though. What he did is told the guy not to bring cash, and went to the bank with the third party person. Had them withdraw the cash and had it to him there. After that he filled the proxy form out but didn't give the guy the car until he came back with a new plate. Everything went well and the car left.

It can be legit, if you want to protect yourself, don't fill out a proxy form you have to go to saaq to get it transfered because until he shows up to the saaq with proxy, you're still responsible for the car. NEVER use a proxy form unless you're selling it to someone you trust.

My friend ships cars to Africa, you'll get your cash and have the vehicle transferred off your name. Nothing to worry about.

Edit: Although, if you have a v6 model, she may be unaware and you should inform of her that. They won't buy it once they find out.

yeah its written in my description on kijiji that its a v6... going to mention it to be sure tomorrow by text

I have a Rwandan friend who on occasion buys vehicles and sells them back home. He makes a pretty good profit, although your OP story does sound somewhat complicated.

My first two cars were both '98 Camrys 4 cyl.

Very high mileage.

Both of them are in Africa by now and the ODO probably reads under 100k kms.

Fast transactions, smooth buyers, paid in cash, they don't argue.

The second time I even wrote "EXPORTERS WELCOME" on my Kijiji ad.

15 calls in the first two hours.

Yeah, a '98 Camry that they buy a couple grands here will be sold 8-10k over there after a good cleanup.
