Low ballers.

How do you guys deal with them? I personally find it funny to come up with a smart ass remark but would that be pushing it? By any chance COULD they turn out to be potential buyers?

Lets say for example, I'm asking 4000$ (slightly negotiable) and I'm thrown a 2k offer, I'd usually just laugh to myself and reply with something witty.

In my opinion its not worth the time and emotion to reply with something snappy.

What id do is state your final price (lets say 3500), 3500$ FINAL offer.

You: For sale 4000$

lowballer: I'll give you 2000$

You: for you, 5000$ is my best price! ;)

Lowballer: my best offer is 2500$

You: ok...ok... 6000$

I lol'd. This seems like the type of approach I would have taken.

I'm surprised how many people here in QC trying to sell used things at the price way higher then it should go for.
And for the low ballers i just write "my last price is x $"

I have a used cell phone for sale @ 100$, it's worth about 150$ on eBay but I don't want to ship it/get paid in Paypal.

I got a guy sent me two emails yesterday, first email:

Him:
80$ ok?

Me:
100$

Him:
85$ pas plus.

Me:
100$

Recently I sold one of my Sidekicks (Long story, tired of shuffling around 4 cars in the driveway + also tired of maintaining it properly) and I made it abundantly clear it wasn't being sold as a daily driver. This was not a car that will take you to your daily job comfortably unless you live < 5km from your job... I even had to argue over it with some chick over the phone who wanted to buy a 2000$, 20yr old Sidekick with 323.000kms for her boyfriend to go to work, from Brossard to Pointe Calumet! That's almost 100km daily round trip. Poor guy would've needed chiropractician coupons!

I got lowballed like crazy until a collector from Sherbrooke made me a decent offer and picked it up.

Unless you're selling something that's about to become obsolete (like the aforementioned cell phone) or you're desperate for money, you're usually not in a hurry to sell. Just wait it out.

Lowballers are merely annoying, but at the same time everyone wants the best deal.

It's funny sometimes to see a complete piece of shit being sold for a ridiculous price, so you talk some reason into the owner and make a realistic offer, then you get tagged a lowballer.

I've seen that happen a lot of times with shipwrecks dragged from a field.

"Yeah but it's an original HEMI car.
- As far as I can see, the proverbial HEMI is nowhere to be found. Also did it originally come with floors too?
- Look, I'm asking 30k for it, it's got a pistol grip.
- There is no way you're ever going to get even 10k for the car, it's good for parts and that's about it, the frame has about the equivalent of a paperclip left of metal on it, and I'm afraid that if I open the doors it will break in two and sink into the ground like the titanic.
- My price is final
- You chances of selling it are, too. I'll give you 5k
- Damn lowballers
- "

Low Ballers are interesting, I do think that often they are hoping to come up on someone who is desperate and hasn't had many offers, I'm sure in those scenarios they make out great

This usually happens on Kijiji, I often just say "well I got an offer for XX so if you want to match that, you can have it" and that typically works or they move on and try to lowball someone else.

Offering 50% deserves a slap in the face lol

I often just pay asking price for things I want, especially if the person is cool and doesn't give me one word replies but I have told myself for used car parts etc, always offer a touch less.

Like I had to buy new Carbon Fiber side skirts, some guy had a used set for $300 + $50 shipping (they are $400 new) I offered $310 shipped. Not a big price break but hey, I paid less than asking.

I always respond to lowballers with my lowest price then usually don't reply again unless they made a decen't counter offer.

But I always offer quite a bit less when I'm buying, not 50% or antything but something reasonable.
