Detectives seize gun of Gatineau officer shot raiding bush party

Looking at possibility ‘she probably did that to herself’

OTTAWA CITIZEN May 14, 2013

OTTAWA — The Gatineau Police officer who was reportedly shot by a “gunman” while raiding a Saturday night bush party along the Gatineau River has had her gun seized by detectives now investigating a working theory that she in fact accidentally shot herself in the leg.

The officer, in her 20s and with three years on the job, apparently drew her gun shortly after 10 p.m., then ran down a hill only to accidentally discharge her 9 mm service pistol, with a round hitting her right leg,
the Citizen has learned.

The officer then said she had been shot and needed assistance.

Moments later, three fellow officers carried her up the hill to an ambulance.

A source said that when a detective seized the officer’s gun at hospital, its magazine was short by one bullet.

The officer’s wound was apparently from a bullet that was fired down into her leg, prompting doctors and later police to think she had actually shot herself after unholstering her gun.

The officer’s police radio call for help made no mention that she had shot herself, and in turn, sparked a ground and helicopter search for a so-called gunman on the loose.

I think I remember in the news they were saying that they "shut-down" the whole neighborhood looking for the shooter.......

She probably had her finger on the trigger while running... causing this. Never have your finger on the trigger unless you decided to shoot!

and perhaps running gun out for a 'noise complaint' is insanely excessive & thankfully no innocent person was hit.
unlike whats happened recently in montreal, new york, L.A & et cetera. cops are out of control & should be dissarmed (imo)!

Only cops and the military should have the right to have a gun!
this article proves that they are clearly more responsible...

You should be put in a cage (imo)

If people with training shoot themselves, imagine what untrained people would do.

Do you have any idea of the qualifications cops need to do in order to carry a gun? Its ridiculous!
And theyre not even obligated to go practice regularly!

Im pretty sure the average sports shooter who goes and shoots regularly is better than 80% of the cops carrying a gun!

I have a friend female cop and she told me she shoots like 2 or 3 times a year just to qualify herself and that she doesn't like it at all!
She never wanted to go with me because shes ashamed im going to be better than her and I consider myself a bad shooter (with a handgun, im actually pretty good with long guns)

I actually think that the officer in this article should lose her job and get charged for it!
We have a negligent discharge, she endangered the population around, lied to cover it up, used police ressources for nothing!
If her first instinct is to lie to cover her ass, I question her ability to perform her duties.

She should be accountable for all of this

Most law enforcement agencies require of their agents a minimum accuracy when it comes to shooting (something like 80%) as well as pass situational scenarios (when to draw a gun when to use pepper spray etc)
You can shoot like sh*t but when it's time to count, as long as you pass that one time, you pass.
I, as well, heard that lots of law enforcement agents are way below par as they only practice to pass the exams and don't apply themselves to be come a better serviceman/woman

Do you ? Please enlighten us. I'm interested!

I just texted my friend to make sure and heres what i got as an answer:

I can't understand why cops don't like practicing with their guns, it's free, I would abuse the shit out of it
