2013 ASELC Time Attack Championship

The week before the event is not time to start mucking around with the rules. This isn't Track and Time. This is ASE. Bring your balls, bring your smack talk, and bring your skills.

Go like hell, or go home. I smell bacon... Richies here I come. See you boys tomorrow!

Quel belle journee! J'ai vraiment aimé ma première experience de time attack!!

C'était mon premier Time Attack et j'ai adoré mon expérience.
See you all for the next round in June.

I broke into 59's! :run:

Thanks for the good fun today everyone, see you in just a couple of weeks for round 2.

First off, I am not changing the rules for this year, but for next year. Hence the discussion. Please re-read.

Also, I do believe we need to draw a line somewhere. Regardless of what you guys think, we are discouraging people from coming. How many people told me personnally; "Time Attack? Nah, my car is not competitive enough. I need to swap, gut, etc to make it competitive". The point with this is regardless of where we do draw the line, there will be unhappy campers. It's funny though that everyone that I've spoke to that would be affected by these rules don't mind them. They actually think it makes a whole lot of sense and would welcome the move to mod.

Here are the refined ideas I had:

Engine
- Forced induction car: No turbo replacement upgrade / Supercharger replacement upgrade
- Non-forced induction cars: No turbo kit / Supercharger kit
- Swaps: Keep the same amount of cylinders

Chassis
- Minimal gutting allowed: rear seat, front seat replacement, and some trims to accomodate rollbar.
- No aftermarket splitters / rear adjustable wing

Also, the new ruleset would also make it more lenient to have race cars running. Currently, race cars are not allowed in MOD class. Well, with this ruleset, I would be willing to accept race cars on MOD tires.

If you guys say "No to rule changes". I am willing not to move anything. But keep it mind that this means that cars like mine stay in street class. It's plated. It's got a dash. It's got street tires. It will run 57's at one point.

It will mostlikely balancing things out.

I think to keep the world balanced we should just ban hondastreet... :p

But in all seriousness, it was one heck of a fun day! The cars are getting stupid fast!

Je veux garder l'essence du règlement: Street class is for street cars.

So what IS a street car? There are plenty of different views.

A car with an upgraded turbo or a forced induction kit is not a street car? But one rocking a normally aspirated 10,000rpm race gas grenade is?

So someone can add 100hp to his already 300hp turbo car but someone adding a 100hp aftermarket kit to his 150-200hp car gets bumped into Mod?

Is a car with pimpy 3-way remote reservoir shocks, 1200lbs+ springs and 1.5" thick swaybars really a street car?

This is the kind of discussions and a 576 page rule book we will end up with and the slippery slope i was referring to...

So anyways, what about the other classes?

"Mod class is for ________" ???
"Race class is for _________" ???

If you want to move away from classing cars based on tires/wheels driven then define a clear vision for each class and then decide on a simple set of rules to direct the builders/drivers into appropriate class.

cheers
