What happens if I leave my car at the pound?

So after my car burnt to a crisp, they took my car to their pound, rather than asking me what to down it. It was clear it should've gone directly to the scrap yard.

What happens if I just leave it there, and never go pay the towing fees? They're charging me $340 for 10-15 Km's of towing.

I spoke to the ville de Longueuil, the girl told me to leave it there, and after an x period of time, it would become theirs. I also spoke to two people at the saaq, one saying the same thing as the girl from the ville, the other not knowing what to tell me all. All I have to do is make sure I cancel the plates.

Now I don't necessarily trust the information I got, and I don't feel like dealing with collections in a couple of months.

Anyone have any idea before I go pay them off tomorrow morning?
 
My girlfriend's dad got his car impounded (long story short here) and owed something like 3K$ and the car was not even worth 2K$. He just left his car there and never heard of it. It's been more than 3 years.

les frais sont payé avec la vente du véhicule à l'enchère, ou en pièce détaché par la fourrière. Mais si tu le laisse la, t'auras pas de trouble.

Just leave it and don't pay a cent, they basically just stole your car.


My friend had a $500 car impounded and he just left it there since the car was pretty much scrap anyway. This was like 5 years ago and nothing has happened.
 
I also know somebody who left hsi car at impound, never heard from them, never got his car back, never paid the bill. It's been years
