Has N.A. become so lazy to the point of misfuelling their cars?

Seriously, at which point is it the consumers responsability versus the manufacturer? Don't consumers know what they are buying? Technology has improved our lives but at the same time, as everyday goes by, I am of the belief people are lazier and getting dumber.

In a notice sent to VW dealers last week and obtained by Automotive News today, VW said it will begin notifying customers of the service campaign on May 28.

"As diesel engine passenger vehicles become more popular, auto manufacturers have seen an increase in the number of misfueling cases where diesel engine vehicles are mistakenly fueled with gasoline," according to the notice. "The resulting fuel system contamination can lead to costly repairs that are not covered under warranty."

The company said it will pay for authorized dealers to add a misfueling guard and fuel filler neck cap to affected 2009-12 vehicles.

Beginning with 2013 vehicles, VW redesigned its fuel fillers to accept only diesel nozzles. Gasoline nozzles are smaller than diesel nozzles. But with one of the new TDI fuel fillers, if a driver tries to insert a gasoline nozzle instead of a diesel nozzle, the fuel tank gate will remain closed.

VW has been a strong proponent of diesel-fueled vehicles in the United States. But improper fueling has become an occasional source of tension between VW and its vehicle owners, online message boards show, because fueling a TDI model with gasoline voids its warranty.

I don't even understand how that could happen! Maybe filling up with regular instead of supreme but that's it haha.

happened to my uncle on 2 occasions . the thing is , how could you possibly blame the manufacturer when clearly its ur own fault

it used to happen all the time at Discount, especially with trucks. People are dumb

...American's.. What do you expect...? :dunno:

At one point this did happen in our family, except it was Diesel that was put into a "gasoline" car. Turns out that the pumps were brand new and not properly labelled. Back then early 1980's, the nozzles were the same size for Diesel or Gasoline. Luckily for us, the car was not started and the fuel tank was simply drained and the Diesel did not make it's way into the engine.

I was at petro once, and I walk outside and see this milf struggling with her pump as I walk over I notice a mess on the floor and she was holding a yellow handle.
I walk over and tell her, that's diesel, she looked at me dumbfounded for a second. I said you can tell because the handle is yellow and the pump does not fit in your car. I dont remember the car but it was an echo or something.

She looks at me and was like " oh my god c'est meme pas mon char!!" haha
I asked her if she put alot in and she said she thinks she did, anyway I told her to not start the car, call a towing and go to a garage to drain the tank.. I told her straight up, if you start it, you're going to pay for it..

well what's the diff, it's just a pump over, if you're not paying attention it could happen...

Exactly, and even more so with gas attendants at 'with service' stations. Pumping gas all day with those fumes... It happens a lot.

rets are gonna ret

drove a tdi for 4 years, never even came close to putting reg fuel in it.

The diesel yellow or green handles are always apart from the other ones, so are the grades.

There is a saying; Human stupidity has no limits.

How some people manage to have a job where they can afford a car and still be so insanely retarded is beyond me.

This is not true, certain stations really require you to pay attention because they have like 2 yellow nozzles, one for diesel one for ordinary, or you switch and then the diesel one is black.

I'm not making excuses for anybody, and no it hasn't happened to me, but I make sure to read the pump when I pull up.
