My brother recently took a trip to North Korea. A Chinese company offers aviation tours in the country and you get to fly on very old and rare Soviet era planes. He spent about a week in the country. Here are the photos with captions (above).

He got there by flying Montreal-Toronto-Tokyo-Beijing-Pyongyang

wow nice ! is it me or they allow much more people now than like not even 5 years ago and Pyonyang with lights at night ?

He visited lately? It's a risky time to visit DPRK. But kudos for the report!

NB. That guide in front of Kim Jung IL house is the same guide that was in the VICE documentary, when they visit the US ship Pueblo (i think)

Dictatorships suck big time for those living under them, but they do leave great moments and landmarks behind - look at Paris, Rome etc...

That must have been one interesting trip. Of course everybody knows they are shown only the good bits, but still, it must be quite strange...

Best MR off-topic thread of the year so far. Always great to see pics from real travellers. If you don't mind me asking, what does your brother do for a living and what was is his overall impression of NK?

This is truly amazing and let me tell you (coming from a Candian-Korean who's spent his youth in Korea) this was impossible when I was growing up.
Seeing the other side like this has an emotional impact on me on a personal level.

Thank you for sharing these!

Best photo set I've seen from NK. I find people always end up (probably intentionally) making it look drab and run down. Thanks for posting.
