When DTM cars resembled road cars...

Ca pourrait etre intéressant d'avoir une série DTM sur le continent. Le vidéo est nice. Ton avatar itoo.

The 21st century killed touring car in general imo... today there are like 3 makes in DTM and 3 makes in BTCC... Things ain't what they used to be...

There were never that many makes in DTM - usually 3. However, in the 80s, there were several classes, all running in the same race. That's why you have "dinky" cars mixed in... Same with BTCC and ETCC.

Howver, DTMs only looked like cars - they were space shuttles on the inside:

Opel Calibra AWD transmission - a train of gears brought power to tiny propshafts in the front wheels, all this to allow the engine to be placed longitudinally as low and as far back as possible. Crazy expensive solution... And that is not talking about the engine itself - 2.5L N/A V6, 450hp, 90kg... It even had pneumatic valve return.

And then to counter the AWd of Alfa Romeo and Opel, M-B introduced dynamic weight transfer - the ballast weight was mounted on a rig that allowed it to move and be placed were it would help - while the car was racing.

DTM died because it was "F1" expensive...

Epic video in this thread, have watched it at least 100 times in the last few years!

Love it when they all get air!

The last manly man driving we knew alongside Group A and B :(

Naaah, man. Plenty of manly men around - just look up the Dakar Motorcycle entry. Big badass men (and women!) right there.

Not exactly DTM related, however I really like the Audi A4 Quattro Super Touring car because it's essentially a highly modified street legal b5.

Audi purposely styled it accordingly so that it resembled their production car so much, that people would buy it. Essentially all it has is a front lip and 19" wheels based on exterior view. There was even a commercial about it. The same ideology that this thread pertains to.

Their marketing department really did a good job, because that car doesn't have a single thing in common with a street car, except maybe the roof skin or the windshield, but I'm pretty sure they are thinner!

Supertouring cars were THE shit. Definately.
