Which points cards do you use and what have you gotten? Airmiles, Aeroplan, Scene etc

BNC mastercard platinum.

It's great because we get enough points to do a round trip flight for two every year. We went to San Fransisco for 'free' last october. And to redeem the points, you can buy whatever flight, hotel, vacation package or car rental you want, then you claim you points to that transaction and get the refund within 48 hours. So you're not limited to certain flights, destinations, etc. Plus we get free health insurance, car insurance, extended warranties on electronics, etc, etc...

For my US purchases I have an Amazon US card, no conversion fees and points to buy stuff on Amazon.

I spend like $5k per year on amazon so it's better than nothing.

i thought amazon.com dont ship to Canada? or you mean you go to the freeport to pick up your dogfood? ..

Scene!!! I love it! I have the Scene VISA and I haven't paid for a movie ticket since I became a member three years ago. I usually bring a date or a friend or two and cover their tickets.

Up until last week, I had 27,000 points and then I decided to take three friends out to see Zero Dark Thirty. At this point can pretty much cover the tickets for 3-4 friends to UltraAVX 3D/IMAX 3D (all 1000 points per ticket) to see a movie every month for five months. Then I'll still generate enough points to see one movie per month with a date, indefinitely.

My other one is the Amex TrueEarnings card that I use for restaurants (3%), gas (2%), and Costco. I get around $50 per year with it.

I have a cottage in the US.
But a lot of Amazon's sub-retailers ship to Quebec and although the deals are not as good it's better than kebekistan.

ToxicBug : I have read scene is the best reward point card in terms how $ value you get...

But because I never go to the movies it's not worth it for me..

You can't upgrade to Wolrd/World elite, you have to be selected.

Well last time I went to the bank the guy just said to fill the application form and see if it passes.. and it did.
I'm pretty sure if you qualify for the minimum yearly income you could get one (somethink like 65K or around that.. and since everyone on Mr makes more than 200K$.. shouldn't be a problem lol).

Yeah it's base either on the household salary or your annual expenses. If you apply/have a Platinum and meet one of the criteria you automatically get upgraded.

I have the Scene debit card which is 1 point per $5, as well as a Scene Visa which is 1 point per $1.
I've also have Air Miles since I get gas at Shell so I might as well collect. Get points from LCBO too. LCBO is good because there's always a promotion of 2x points, or 20 extra points etc.

I can't count how many free movies I've gotten. It's best used on IMAX/Ultra AVX. A movie costs 1000 points. Buying a movie gets you 100 points. You also get a percentage off at the concession stands.

I may very well ditch my RBC bank account as soon as I'm done with the debt on that credit card.

anybody here know of any reason to stay with RBC? I've heard people say before that RBC is not an easy bank to get an account with and to try and not let go of that account...but I really don't seem to see any real benefit other than those reward points from the credit card...

I'm thinking of going to scotia, that scotia momemtum infinite is looking very nice right now...

No need to change your bank account to get the credit card!

I know that but I already barely use the RBC bank account. I mainly use it because of the credit card. I know I could get the scotia momentum but for some reason, the idea of having 3 credit cards doesn't turn me on so much... + RBC stacks fees on fees on fees. I'm really not sure why people say "you should not close an account with RBC. It's the best out there".... :dunno: If I'm gonna switch to Scotia for the credit card, might as well terminate everything I have going on with rbc no?

what do you mean its not easy to get an account? you go in the branch and say you want to open an account... like any other bank lol

I seriously have NO idea. I was just told by a few people not to close an account from RBC.... But I may very well do that as soon as I clear my debt. The fees are ridiculous.

I think it is the best, especially considering that there's no annual fee. I've already pitched it to people here, at least twice. At $18 to $20 per ticket it's 1.8% to 2% cash back on 100% of your purchases if you go see UltraAVX 3D or IMAX 3D. When they run the half-price Wednesdays promotion, it's 3.6% to 4% cash back.

Of course you need to like going to the movies :)

I currently have a bmo mosaic credit card with airmiles on it which I find totally useless. Now, I am debating between the two:
Low interest rate (10%) with no cashback or 19.9% interest rate but with 1.5-2% cash back.

General rule is that every card is 2% rewards. Airmiles cards are less than that.
I have a PC Mastercard that gives me free groceries, for example this weekend i have 40$ worth of free food. I find this is the best one since everyone needs to buy groceries.

The interest rate on credit cards for me is 100% irrelevant since I keep it at 0$ at all times, if i spend something on it, i'll go home and pay it on the same day online, worst case scenario, i'll pay it with my line of credit if i'm short of a few bucks.

btw a trick for those who want a card that requires high personal or household income but you dont actually make that much:
just tell them your spouse makes 100k a year or something. no verification is required, they just need verbal confirmation and her occupation. just say something professional.

J'utilisa une visa RBC récompenses et elle me coute 0$ par année.
J'utilise mes points surtout pour des cartes itunes ou des trucs de cuisine!
