IMDB Top 50 Movies

LOTR overrated? no other film has brought a world like middle earth to the big screen. really though, can't hate the movie because frodo cried 3/4 of the time... LOTR deserves it's spot.

as for pulp fiction being #2 thats only to cult fans because there are better movies that deserves #2 spot, imo.

and the rest just seems like a collective data of what our generation likes, guns, drugs, mafia.

Pulp fiction isn't only for Cult fans but it's also a reference in cinematographic studies for photography, sound and scenarios..
as for LOTR is overrated because it's a movie with uber budget and coming from a book. Still a good movie, but mostly for entertainment. the list regroup everything.

Didn't expect to see 'the departed' on the list, then again the original 'Infernal affaires' (hong kong production) was a badass movie.

I like this list

that's all good but it's beside the point. The Shining is a perfect example of what u speak of and it's #46 of the 250 top list. It's pointless to go into specifics like budget and what not, because in that case, "El mariachi" or PI should be on the list.

I totally agree with you, but indirectly, today fictions cannot be done properly with good budget. the Post-Prof, 3D rendering, specials effect is part of the movie esthetic in the entertainment point, because it immerse you more into the story line.

Batman or LOTR wouldn't be has nice as popular/good as they are if they didn't had a big budget.

If it wasn't for that kind of thing, they're a lot of movie like you said : PI and El Mariachi and many many more that should be on the list.

You're really going to compare the role Heath Ledger played in Batman to a role in any of the LOTR films? Large budget or not, Heath Ledger's Joker is one of the best villain performances in modern cinema.

lol, rating a film isn't only about the characters... read what I said earlier : Rating a movie englobe everyting, actors playing, vews, scenario, soundtrack, immersion, post prod, etc.

IE : LOTR views, landscape are 10000x better than batman.
But Batman caracters are much better played by the actors than LOTR.

ouff that's a hard one. idk if the actor who played gollum or heath ledger's joker was a better performance. i know, two different way of acting but the actor who play gollum was simply one of a kind.

Aside from shiny decors and nerdgasm shots LOTR movies was a pretty straightfoward trilogy whereas the books were 100x times better.

I find that memento is overrated. It's not THAT good.
Back to the future?
Gran torino was really good. Underrated a bit.
V for vendetta should be way up there.
Jurassic Park is one of the movie that blew away everything in the 90s. It made the VFX industry skyrocket and whatever is on screen today what it is.
Aside from the kinky soundtrack, I'd have to say that Titanic should claim it's mark in the top tier - its a technical masterpiece, flawless and thrilling storytelling... everything just works. Not the music doe. And James Cameron is a total asshole. Im not sure if I like the movie, but the movie in itself is grandiose.
I dunno, theres quite a few films we could talk about.

Most of my favorite movies are from the 60s and 70s...
