Looking to buy myself a little bike. budget ~ 1200$
I don't mind used. Found a Trek Madone and Argon 18 in the price range.
Any suggestions what I should be looking at? Something on the lighter side. Medium frame. Upgradable.

Thanks in advanced.

Been running a CF Madone 3.1 for a couple of years now, no complaints. Are you including your shoes and pedals in that $1,200 budget?

Used Marinoni

they have some 2005-2008 at this price. Without shoes and clip. But used clips are like 60$

I say buy a used 80s road bike for 100-200$.
If you actually end up doing a lot of biking - think about spending 1200$. Many people get expensive bikes and leave them untouched in the garage...

I wouldn't recommend buying and upgrading. You'll end up spending a lot more money in the long run.

If you're serious about it, go all out. If not, check out giant and specialized, both have good value bikes in the sub $1500 range.

Being serious about something you've never realy done before is pretty hard and the best way to waste alot of money.

Do you have any gear ? Keep in mind, you'll also need to be fitted and it might add some big $ to the final price. So I'd say, don't spend all your 1200$ on the bike itself.

^I don't know, when I first started shopping I was planning on spending $1k max. After talking to the salespeople and checking around on the Internet I spent a bit more and ended up with a carbon Ultegra equipped bike.

When you really like your bike you ride it more. However, a budget is a budget so OP has to figure out what he's willing to spend.

My only regret is not buying the next model up.

The only thing I would watch out for high end bike ($1,200 "was" high end for me before buying one), is that like any other high performance thing, it will require more maintenance and spare parts are also more expensive. I'm at 300+$ invested in a year in maintenance on something I wanted to last 10+ years.

ex :
Light weight rim : requires even more expensive rims once you start bending them cause you weight 200lb and you roll on Mtl bike path
TIAGRA/SORA : barely holding the torque of a guy squating 300lb
Quebec roads
etc

Thanks for all the advice guys. Going to see a shop today for some info

I have a friend who has a nice Specialized from 2 years ago that he wants to sell, hardly ridden, he paid about 1000$-1200$. I'll post details for you guys.
