Dodge brand CEO Ralf Gilles has confirmed that the Viper will return in 2012 as a 2013 model year car.

Dodge recently ceased production of its halo sports car, while continuing on with certain development aspects, eventually showing a concept car to dealers at a recent national dealer meeting.

Gilles commented that the new Viper, “is not based on anything else,” and that, “There won’t be a part of the car that’s untouched.” That being said, the new Viper may do away with the previous model’s 6.4-liter V10 engine.

Gilles didn’t rule out the use of an engine from it’s new parent company Fiat, which owns Ferrari, but said the next Viper won’t just borrow a powerplant. He did say that the long hood with the cabin near the rear of the car would change.

Previous reports had suggested the car would just be a version of the Alfa Romeo 8C (itself based on the same chassis as the Ferrari California and Maserati GranTurismo), and while there will be some similarities, the proportions will be different.

The goal, says Gilles, will be to make the Dodge brand’s new halo model more accessible. That being said, it will be easier to drive and more forgiving – including having, for the first time, stability control.

It's going to be very interesting to see what they come up with... they better not ruin it!

Ah bon merci de la precision je ne savais pas que les Viper avait des 6.4L ??

Surely a typo... probably meant 8.4.

La Dodge Viper, ce bolide sport élevé au rang de voiture-culte, va renaître de ses braises en 2012.

C'est du moins ce qu'a annoncé le Wall Street Journal dans son édition de jeudi, après avoir obtenu des informations privilégiées sur la présentation des nouveaux modèles Chrysler présentés la veille aux concessionnaires du troisième constructeur américain.

La nouvelle Viper serait plus luxueuse et plus élancée que le modèle produit de 1992 à 2010. Cela ajoute un peu d'eau au moulin à ceux qui croient que la future figure de proue de Dodge a d'abord été développée avec Mercedes, le constructeur allemand en faisant sa nouvelle SLS AMG.

Selon le Wall Street Journal, «le véhicule concept présenté aux concessionnaires, avec ses quelque 25 couches de peinture rouge pomme, apparaît plus luxueux et s'éloigne de son image de bête de piste pur-sang. Les concessionnaires présents ont indiqué que le comité de sélection de Chrysler a jeté un coup d'oeil à la voiture et ont approuvé sa production en cinq petites minutes.»

Si elle adopte une ligne plus affutée et moins brutale, la nouvelle Viper n'en restera pas moins méchante côté mécanique; elle retiendra vraisemblablement les services du monstrueux V10 de 8,4 litres, qui recevra en prime la technologie de Ferrari, aujourd'hui cousine de Dodge, a-t-on besoin de le rappeler.

jpas sur d'aimer le nouveau design j'vais attendre de la voir en vrai avant de juger.. j'ai hate de voir ce qu'il va y avoir sous le hood .. j'ai tj aimer les viper j'espère il ne me décevrons pas..
 
V10 DOHC would be sweet on an 8.4. would be close to 800hp stock N/A

of subject i cant wait until this spring, Im gonna be picking up a Gen 2 1999 silver RT/10. I feel like a dream is coming true lol.
I fell in love with this car since the first Gran Turismo game and i have all the Burago die casts hahaha.
Im just a little scared of all the attention but im sure ill get used to it
