The much anticipated Tesla Model X was finally released to the public at the manufacturer’s Freemont, California plant yesterday.
Tesla CEO and world superstar Elon Musk was on hand to deliver the presentation to much fanfare from the press. The X was proof once again that “any type of car can go electric,” Musk told an audience of at least a thousand before the first five customers (plus Musk) got their hands on a Model X.
The first customers included venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson and Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
The demonstration of the Falcon wing doors was a success as Musk demonstrated how close you could park a Model X and still have them open automatically without hitting anything. The sensors are actually located under the aluminum which is a great technological achievement.
The Model X comes with a 90 kWh battery that allows you to travel about 400 kilometers between charges. It reaches top speeds of 255 kilometers per hour, and goes from zero -to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (3.2 seconds in “ludicrous” mode).
