Guys, one disgruntled former STi owner at a time please.
EVO GSR? It takes a very well sized bank account to run an STI, as an example November's running costs were over 2,000$ worth of gaz, insurance, maintenance and car payments. I refilled 9 times, did over 4,200 kms. That's 24k a year gentlemen, what I would assume is MR's median income and is Quebec's average income. Let's get real for a second.
An EVO GSR is worst, and is a much worst DD than a STI.
5 speed tranny
Frequent differential maintenances
Unreal MPG - and I thought the STI was shitty in that department.
Seats that can only hold a female shaped man
NVH that makes it completely non-daily drivable
Would you describe yourself as an objectif participant of this discussion? You bought a blown STi without knowing it, which says a lot about you, and blew it again - turned around and bought a entry level BMW.
A 335Xi is a great gentleman's car, it has no where near the handling capacities of an STi and playing the N54 card versus Subaru's EJ is a bit laughable. Sure the potential for 400hp is cheap, but a 335i that I listed for a friend on this site a few months ago went through 18 injectors, 2 clutches and 3 fuel pumps within 40,000km. Is that what you consider a better purchase? A tuned 335Xi goes through drive shafts like I can potentially go through engines, c'me on! There's a reason used 335i are worth as much as used 328is, they're one of the most unreliable BMW in decades outside of E60 M5s.
Trying Clarkson'esque one liners isn't going to make your argument any better. The '11 + STis have amazing steering feels for AWDs, much better than any Audi or X drive BMW. My car is an off-the-shelf stage 1 COBB tuned and I haven't found anything south of 50,000$ brand that can keep up with it under 160 kph - 1/4 outside of a well driven Mustang 5.0, it frequently does 13 sec flat and even 12.8 when properly launched. Real life isn't a car magazine, the STi has far more usable performance whether it's through handling or straight line acceleration in this price range than anything else out there.
As far as your GTI comment, a stage 2 GTI will hang with a stage 1 GTI over 120kph. It's no secret the STI has no top end, and nobody is going to deny that. I much prefer usable power than get-in-jail sort of usable power.
Aucune logique Bmw 335xi used comme alex a dit !
Subaru's STi is 39,999 - where are you taking 55,000 from? Comparing used versus new is a pointless comparaison, and one I will not get into.
There's a reason you're driving a Civic. Stop hating on cars you can't afford, haven't driven and simply read disgruntled former owner's review. There's a reason STIs have amongst the best resale value of any cars on the market; it's legend. I bought this car as I believe any true car enthusiasts with the means to live their dreams should one day own a STi - even if it isn't their type of car like in my case. The STi is IMO a must-own car like all the other classic sports cars; M cars, 911s, AMGs, Corvettes, etc. You need to own one to truly understand what the legend is all about, disregarding brand snobbery and forum myths.
55k$+need for awd sportscar=used RS4...
Like they don't have enough DI problems as is. And no it isn't 55K - and you can get used RS4s under 40K easily these days. You're talking about a car that retail around 100K in 07-08, again, quite a subjective opinion.
